With a group of about 14 canoeist's and kayakers, we left OMTC only 20 or so minutes behind schedule with a vague idea of the final logistics and a "we'll make it work" mentality. After finally reaching the put-in and seeing half of the original crew there, with the knowledge that I was the last in the group at that point, the conclusion was reached that we had lost a few folks. A few phone calls were made and it was determined that the rest of the crew was at another put in just slightly upstream. I decided to go upstream and locate the rest of the crew and reorganize/regroup. After most everyone was reunited with their boat (A few boats were towed downstream to their respective owner), we ran shuttle and the boats upstream were floated/towed down to the second put in.
Everyone was reorganized/regrouped again.
One small rapid at the beginning was a nice way to start the float off with a smile on everyone's face. The water clarity was amazing, and moving at approximately 2 mph. We stopped on a gravel bar about half way to stretch our legs and have a bite to eat. As we continued down river we saw several ducks including a few mallards, and the most beautiful bald eagle you have ever seen
Having the OMTC Land Rover and trailer out there proved very helpful in getting all the boats loaded and ready to go in no time.
Overall, great trip, beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, great people! Could have probably communicated a little better, but confusion is what makes this sport so great!
Post and let me know how often we should get a trip like the Eagle Float organized. Once a month? Twice a month? Once a year?
