Wattensaw Campout 2/26

Post by DeBo » Tue Jan 18, 2011 10:00 pm

We have been working with AGFC to create a designated campsite on the canoe trail on Wattensaw Bayou. When the memorandom of understanding is signed between the ACC and AGFC we will start work on a wooden camping plateform. A location has been decided on and I for one am ready to try it out before work begins.

The entire length of the Wattenaw trail is about 7 miles. The proposed campite is about half way. We will meet at T'Ricks in Hazen at 10AM Saturday 2/26, run shuttle and put in around 11AM. This will give us plenty of time to set up camp Saturday afternoon, have a good fire and hopefully you dutch oven cookers will show up for us. Then we will have an easy paddle out on Sunday.

I'll be there for sure.. have one 12" Dutch oven and one 10" dutch oven and can feed approximately 8 hungry folks with this. Got any ideas of what you would like to eat? lol.

Do you think it might be possible to work in a class on GPS 101 around the campfire?

I second that idea. Whenever I turn on my GPSr, it displays the message

I wish this was happening next weekend. I will more than likely be gone on the 26th.
Also, next weekend is a three day weekend for some people.

Thanks Richard! I hope you can make it. Should be nice. Anyone else who plans on going let me know.

We have good news on the Wattensaw campsite. Our agreement with AGFC is in completion and I will be asking for volunteers to help build the new camping pad soon. This will be the first official water trail canoe campsite in Arkansas.

It appears I will be in Arkansas this weekend and therefore I will be at Wattensaw. I am thinking of making Wattensaw the beginning of my delayed trip to Mississippi.

Debo - Sounds like a great event but I have a conflict this Saturday and cannot join the group. Thanks for your efforts arranging for this campsite. Count me in when you are ready for the volunteer work to construct the campsite pad.

Thanks John. There will be other oportunities. It is about time for me to post a Spring Wetlands Touring Schedule. With the recent rain Bayou DeView will probably be first on the list.
