Go pro attacment
Picked up a used go pro hero and am looking for suggestions on how to affix the base to my helmet. The adhesive is not sticky enough for me to trust and I want to attach it permanently. Any advice?

There are all kind of mounts available on the GoPro website. Maybe one of them would be more to your liking.

Or perhaps remove the adhesive tape or foam from the mount you now have and use contact cement, epoxy, liquid nails, or something similar to affix it to the helmet permanently.

I've had one for a few river trips so far. there's definitely a learning curve...
the curved mounts do hold well on a helmet but don't put 100% faith in them. I use a short tether looped to helmet. yes, it's a snag hazard so make you own judgment.
the flat stickies hold pretty well on a boat, but i have had two failures (1 was the sticky mount came off boat when i used my boat to ram someone loose from a very minor pin and 1 was the camera came unlatched from the sticky mount when i tagged a rock pretty solid). Both times i had a short leash to grab loop.
another alternative is the chest harness. it's harder to keep at a "good angle" as it moves around on your PFD so it's angle/orientation can change as you paddle. you'll get some shots and miss some shots but it can be an interesting angle.
also, you'll find moisture management is THE key to get clear footy. internal lens fog will happen (it's glass and the casing is plastic so any internal moisture will condense on inside of lens since it cools much faster than the plastic when water temp is colder than air temp). there's a great thread on the topic on this users' forum though (i hadn't tried out yet but can see how it would make a big difference)

good luck playing with it... it is pretty fun.
I'm by no means an expert but PM if something comes up as I may have already faced it.

Ryan, I am thinking about ordering a pack of curved mounts for my helmet. It might take a while to receive them, but if you aren't in a hurry, I certainly don't need five. I'd sell you one or several at a few bucks a pop. Interested? I have also put one of the surf mounts on my Taureau, and I thin kit's going to work well. If you want to check it out, I can bring it to the meeting next week.
Thanks,
Shep

Paul, absolutely I'll buy a couple from you. Lemme know when they get here.
Phil, where on the camera are you attaching the tether?

I haven't used my GoPro a ton yet, but I used it all through out my trip to Chile and the curved mount on my helmet worked fine. The one thing I did do was tie chord from the camera to my helmet (I tied it at the based of the camera, just above the screw thingy).

I want to figure out the best way to do a mount on the back of the boat. It makes for some awesome footage. I've seen some with a curved bar, that might flex on impact. So far, this is the only one I could find though.

Re: Go pro attacment
I got the Surf version, which comes with one of these:
http://www.goprocamera.com/products/sur ... ansion.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It is a little bit flexible, so it works on surfaces that are close to flat, but not quite. I mounted one on the bow of my boat so I can point it forwards for POV boat shots, or backwards for paddler action shots. You have to get it >3 feet away from you to keep from filming mostly just your body, so I'm saving the second disc I got for another boat instead of putting in on the stern of this boat.
