Does anyone use the Jackson Happy seat?

Post by BMuu » Fri Jan 14, 2011 9:13 am

Not to be confused with the sweet cheeks that you mold to your butt. The Happy seat is the optional blow up bag that goes under your thighs to relive pressure and help with changing edges since you can have a push/pull effect rather than just a pull with your knees.

However I don't see a whole lot of people using these, I just wanted to see if anyone on here has used them and what they think before I blow the $50 on one.

I already have a happy thruster, it came with my old boat, but the guy didnt realize you needed the happy seat with it so it was never used.

I think Justin Payne has one for his All Star. I remember him saying it was pretty comfortable for the longer trips down the river.

I use the Happy Seat/Happy Thruster Combo. Have used the same one for, 5 years? They are expensive, but are very durable and can be repaired easily if you get too rough on it.

I don’t attach mine to the seat with the Velcro like they recommend, I like to take it out whenever. I also mainly use it when I park and play and rarely use it when running down river. I just don’t want something else to keep up with while on the river and don’t want anything in the boat that could slow me down if I need to exit it fast. I typically go years between swims (I think I am about due for one) so It’s not that I am afraid of swimming out with it in there under normal circumstances, It’s swimming out of a pin situation. Which I think is more likely in our lower volume runs we have around here. I like to do crazy/stupid line, so pinning is always an option (although I have gotten pretty good at avoiding/getting out of them without swimming)

To solve the leg support issue while river running, I pulled the factory glued in thigh/knee pads loose and put a block of foam under the side of my knee to support it. Once I figure out the location I glue it in and glue the factory pad over it. I also add foam to the inside of the thigh hook to make it more aggressive in the same way (under the factory foam pad) This make a “pocket” that support my knee/leg all the way around giving me much more support and boat control.

The Combo is way better than nothing, and since you have the Thruster, I would recommend getting the Seat. If I was to lose mine, I would replace it. But don’t be afraid to tweak the outfitting also with some glue in foam and some Duct Tape. The more of your body in contact with the boat the more responsive the boat will be.

I love the Happy Seat!!!

At first glance it will look like a death trap, but they are very comfortable and seem increase boat control.

I've used the Happy Seat & like it but you need to make sure it doesn't impede your wet exit. Generally it's not an issue given the large keyhole size of the Jackson cockpits...but test it nonetheless before you use it on the river.

I just ordered it from cks yesterday. I will test it in my living room first, that way if it doesn't look like it will work out I can send it back.

Thanks for the help guys!

This is late considering you already ordered yours. But I have the combo and I love it. Both the happy thruster and happy seat have busted on me, but since Jackson has such great warranties they were both replaced for free. I don't think it makes the boat more comfortable, but does help with control. The last two swims I've had have both been out of my playboat with the combo pumped up. I didn't have any trouble getting out of my boat either time. Hope you enjoy it

I got it in the mail Saturday, but I don't know when I will actually be able to use it since it had a hole in it from the factory!
