paddling "goobers" funnies

Post by Louiscov » Thu Dec 09, 2010 11:45 am

Reminds me of fun weekends at Gray Rock on the Buffalo back in the 80's!! We really need some water.

Oh crap oh crap oh crap! Backpaddle! backpaddle! backpaddle!...Piton!
That water looked a wee bit cold, too. I fail to see how so many people could have so many issues with such a simple obstacle. Funny as hell, though.

In their defense, didn't we all do a few "gooberish" things before we got learned?

Could some one make it rain?

And if I'm honest, I still manage goober moves on occasion. I figure it helps to keep me humble, and a little paddling humility may well help keep me alive! The hard part is now I know when I'm being gooberish. Ignorance was bliss?

In defense of the "goobers", my guess is there had to be something on river left that kept them from taking a slightly river left approach to the slot to just slide down that chute, instead of heading direct into the rock.

Or, maybe not.

Since I started this I'll confess that I had many early river experiences as a "goober," and the laughs and good times got me hooked on paddling for a lifetime. Even got me involved in some Louisiana scenic river projects and hearings back in the early 80's while still a goober, though enthusiastic, paddler. I'm just glad I had only one nasty cold water/weather swim when heavy cotton sweatshirts and jeans were what I wore during my years in "gooberdom."
