Can I try on your kokatat dry suit?

Post by ebell » Thu Dec 02, 2010 6:48 pm

I am going to get a kokatat dry suit I hope. The only problem i am having is choosing between Large and X-Large.

I live in NWA and was hoping that someone who had either of these sizes would let me try theirs on.

Thanks
Eric

I live in Jenks south of Tulsa OK.

Mine kokatat is x large.

6 ft 205 to 220 lbs depending on time of year, shirt 17 1 / 2 by 36 and the xlarge works good for me. I usually wear an old thick fleece Stolquist bunny suit under mine.

it is a long drive over but you are welcome to try it on. However, if you are close to me in size or even larger, I bet the X large would work. I do like a pretty loose fit.

I have an older Kokatat Large you are welcome to try. I can tell the neck gasket was trimmed by the guy I bought it from.

I understand your desire to "be sure", but here's my $0.02 on it in case you don't find one of each size to try close to your home:

My height and weight both say I'm a medium. Once in it, when I moved my arms through the range of motion expected for paddling, if felt like I was stretching and would eventually tear our the fabric near the shoulders. Then, I struggled to get out of the suit without assistance, again feeling like I was about to rip the fabric.

I put on a large, it felt a little bit long in the legs and arms, but not to an extreme, more like wearing baggy comfortable clothes. I've been happy ever since.

If you're "in-between", you'll probably be happier with the XL.

I second Cowper's comments. On the size charts, I need a medium, but I bought a large. I can get in and out of it without help. It's slightly baggy when I'm walking around, but once in the boat, the fit is great. I've worn two layers of light fleece under the drysuit without feeling constrained.

I think Kokatat will custom tailor the drysuit to fit you also. My little buddy Brian got the legs shortend in his. He now looks like a Oompa-Loompa.

Plus, Baggey is where it's at. That and urban camo. Maybe Kokatat could do a partnership with Jincos to make a super-baggy urban-camo "street" edition.

Seem to remember chart saying I was a large at 6'2", 33"w, 33-34" inseam, 180lbs. Tried on the large and all was ok until I sat on my butt like in kayak, Then it pulled from my feet to my shoulders. Luckily, i easily traded without shipping cost for a new XL. It's loose a midships but overall length is fine. Kokatot also has a fit suit they will ship to you or a dealer I think. And they also will factory alter a new suit to some degree.
