Paddled 8 miles from three sisters state park on last saturday and saw several redtail hawks being harrassed by a group of punk crows
grebes are hanging around the back of coves and points
loons are back and so is there melodic singing which echoes when the the lake is flat calm
Can't forget to mention the bald eagles!
I encourage everyone to get on lake ouachita during the winter.
We are fortunate to have this place in our backyard.

Wonderful pictures. Thanks so much for sharing.
The Arkansas Democrat Gazette has a web site and contest for Arkansas photos. Do you have any of your pictures entered? From the quality of your pictures I'm guessing you do. I wish I knew how to post a link but I don't. If any other members are interested in seeing some of the best pictures of our beautiful state please google "Capture Arkansas". All I can say about the pictures posted there is WOW!!!!! Have always loved looking at other posters pictures and being a "traveler in my mind" while I enjoy them. It also gives you a chance to look at places you have not yet visited and than plan to take day trips to see them. So much beauty right in our own back yard.

Great pictures as always Dan! I'm definitely going to Ouachita this winter. Do you normally just paddle the shoreline, wander around the islands, or run up the creek channels? Do you have suggestions for good places to start exploring?

All of the above!
I generally pay attention to prevailing winds and pick an area of the lake that protects me some what from the winds that can do to ruin your day. People drown on this lake every year and common sense must be used. Lake ouachita is a big lake with several areas being geologically different.
North and west part of the lake has alot of standing timber with coves and cuts being numerous with shallow depths. South and east is deep water with higher terrain.
The state park at Three Sisters State Park is well run along with the other camping areas but I prefer to pick an island and set up camp

Sorry for the delay Richard. It depends on the weather but I go often.
These photos are from sunday on big blakely. Not the best images because they were about 1000 ft high and climbing. Watching the eagles play makes the day stellar.
