Kayaking Class IV Futaleufu in a Week?

Post by Mike_P » Fri Nov 05, 2010 2:09 am

Watched this episode of "The Aventurist" last night on Discovery's HD Theater channel. Wish my learning curve was that steep! The scenery is breathtaking.

Paddlers' fantasy-land down there. But it's not all IV+/V. Check out the trips by Spe (http://www.exchile.com) and others. They have trips for intermediates/advanced intermediates, and day-time activities for non-boaters, too.

And it's a sweet way to lose a couple of weeks of winter!
Let there be rain!

I've been really interested in this river for a while, is it true it's going to be damed in the next decade?
It could be worse, it could stop raining

I have heard this as well. According to my favorite website, Wikipedia: The Chilean government has recently proposed creating a hydroelectric dam, which may jeopardize the free flow of the river in the near future. This project is not expected to start until after 2012 as the Endesa Power company is intent on first building a dam on the Baker river South of Futaleufú.

Caught a rerun of this yesterday. That was a seriously impressive effort.

Maybe we could get him and Bear Grys to knife fight then shoot the winner.

Zero to class 4 in a week? I wish I had that long! :D

My "friend" put me on a 3+ my first time ever on any boat without a craps table. I had never paddled, tubed, canoed or even seen a kayak or kayak video and I STYLED it!! It being the swim to the side after about 1/2 mile into the run when I went strait into a pillow rock!

However, I was hooked and bought my first boat S6 4 days later!
