So by "one more" does this mean that there will be no more open pool sessions this winter? Subject to participation at this event possibly additional sessions? Just curious.OCCGrad wrote:The Outdoor Connection Center is hosting one more open practice session at the HPER pool on November 2nd from 7-9pm.

Re: U of A pool session nov. 2
I don't know the details, but I do know that they generally plan everything at least a semester ahead. Not sure if this is an internal requirement of the Outdoor Connection Center or a larger requirement of the HPER/IMRS. I chat with the OCC director a few times a month, and she is a paddler (ACA Sea Kayak instructor). She has told me that the big challenge for growing the paddling offerings at UofA is the lack of predictable water at the times of year you don't need a drysuit. Also remember that IMRS's mission is to serve the student body first, and the community second, so we need to get more "students" utilizing the pool sessions if we want to make a strong case for offering consistent roll sessions. That said, if we do get good turnouts at every offering, I think they would still respond positively.
I am hopeful they will have an opening for a trip leader next semester, and that I can do it. I would definitely make it my goal to expand the WW canoeing/kayaking program, but I'll need some help from ya'll if I am to do that. Any suggestions about trips that can be scheduled a semester ahead of time? If this works out, a post-spring-exams trip to the Nantahala might be doable for 2012, but I need some lower-hanging fruit in the meantime.
Thanks!

Re: U of A pool session nov. 2
I guess the question is--and I've talked unofficially to Kenny with the OCC about this question... what can the ACC do to help support paddling at the U of A and to increase interest/ support trips/ provide instruction and support?
I'm actually considering signing up for a course a semester just to have access to the full compliment of activities at the OCC.

They've got pretty nice boats and equipment for rent pretty cheap... if you're in to that whole training blade thing.

Where do we park and take the boats in? Who do we pay? I've never been in the HPER . It wasn't even a concept when I was at the U.

By that time, the parallel parking spots on the street between the HPER and Pomfret are legal. There is a concrete drive that faces this street with about a 4 foot concrete lip up to a garage door. For big boats, they will open the door. Last time, all of the kayaks just got carried through the door/stairwell right next to the garage door.

Hey guys, just to let you know we have indeed planned the spring calendar here at the OCC, and there will be MANY more polo and practice sessions, along with a couple of roll clinics as well. Click this link to see our schedule: http://imrs.uark.edu/7541.htm
And about having more whitewater trip options... That is high on my agenda as well, but due to the nature of Arkansas water and the fact that we have to plan everything a semester ahead makes it very difficult to plan a whitewater trip.
Even the Piney canoe trip that was planned for this weekend probably won't go!
