Bobtail creek access

Post by ckuntz » Thu Oct 21, 2010 4:13 pm

Did the landslide on falling water creek road block the access to Bobtail creek? I'm geographically challenged(ask Anthony), but appears that there is an road (FR 1219) within hiking distance to Bobtail. Is this the traditional put-in?

No, the landslide has nothing to do with Bobtail access, but makes the shuttle to the takeouts a loooong ways. dale

Ah man, I can't pass this one up. The traditional put in is at

N35.7869 W92.9128

Cut and paste into mapping program of your choice, or Google Earth.

The link Diane posted gives excellent road directions.

The landslide is at N35.78216 W92.93579

Cowper whatever happened to the possibilities of USFS creating fish habitat in Bobtail? Still slated to happen?

DeBo and I need to get back to that project. We had a great meeting with the FS about this, but need to follow-up.

I fully support the idea. I would like a one bedroom cabin with a shower located on the left bank above Bail-Baby-Bail.

Thanks,
Fish

Sorry folks; standby for thread hi-jack:

With all the dry weather we've had, you should have already saved the $140 in gas money you would need to pick up one of these:
http://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-eTrex ... P1594.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Due to the small size and weight, I sometimes have one of these when on creeking adventures, right along with pulleys, carabiners, and other "tools of the trade".

You probably already know someone who would download the Arkansas Topos into your internal memory, so you wouldn't have to spring for a mapping program until you wanted to get the rest of the country.

There's an overwhelming range of choices available in GPS units, with prices ranging up to $500 and more. Most people get lost in all the choices and think they need to spend some real cash to get anything worth having. Not true. You don't HAVE to have wireless transfer, touch screens or Mega-memory, or customized internal menues designed to specifically enhance Geocaching or some other special use.

If you're willing to go with a slightly larger unit, but that has the added advantage of "it floats!", then go to that same website and get the recently discontinued model 76CSx for $230 (+ cost for an SDmicro card). This is a true bargain-basement deal. This unit has the same capability as other models going for over $400, and lacks only the "wireless data transfer" and maybe some other minor features that have been added to the next-generation models. This is the unit DeBo and I use most often.
