Consider this an open invitation to AR paddlers to come out to NC and race, paddle or hike in to spectate the best grassroots whitewater event around, the Green River Narrows Race. For the last couple of years I have hiked in to watch. This year I will likely paddle in and run safety. A good friend who races with me, Tad Dennis is going to race C1 and so I'll definitely be there.
The rumor is the Germans will definitely be coming again and the French will also likely be back. If they can come from Europe, surely the drive from AR can't be that bad! The drive is easy. Jump on I-40 east. Hang a right on I-26 at Asheville. Just past Hendersonville at the Big Hungry Road exit, this is where you get off for the Put-In. It is only 9.5 hours. You could even get in a run on Sunday morning before heading home. This is, of course, provided you can get up in the morning following Woody's party.
As a closing to this message, Cowper I am directly calling you out on this one. Now, with your cute little car getting such good gas milage, you no longer have a good excuse. Come and play on the Green! I won't be racing. Rather I'll be running safety. You could bring all your gear and join me on the rock below Gorilla to pull people out of speed trap. You know this sounds like fun!
Finally, to whet your appetite, here is some great headcam footie of most of the major rapids: http://vimeo.com/13651321.
