Any water for paddling in Ark?

Post by deakin » Tue Sep 21, 2010 7:55 pm

Is there enough water to paddle any of the middle Buffalo or actually any of the rivers that are similar in Arkansas?
I did the lower Kings over spring break and have been dying to do another 5 or 6 day trip. I just need to keep the rapids at class II or less.

Shows the river "low" from Gilbert down, too low above that.
If you started at Gilbert and planned on maybe fishing a lot or just doing a "layover day", you might could stretch this to a 5 day trip. It would be hard work to do that (the kind of hard work I like).

Richard or others may be able to advise as how to add a couple of days along the White; that could make it a more typical 5 day float. Difficulty of both the Lower Buffalo and the White would be in the Class 1 range, but treat with respect - the White is a big, wide river, and mistakes, while unlikely, could be much more of a problem than a "tump" on a 30 foot wide Class 1 stream, especially if they are generating from the upstream dams.
Trash: Get a little every time you go!
