Lower Ledge Preliminary Plan Review

Lower Ledge Feature Preliminary Design Plans:

ACC has been forwarded copies of the Preliminary Design Plans for the Lower Ledge developed for the City of Malvern by McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group.

ACC will review this preliminary design through the committee the board assigned this to last fall.

We are looking at all aspects of the design: recreational use by all boaters/river users, swift-water rescue training capabilities, boat passage for larger craft, safety, access, security, environmental, historical, fish habitat, sustainability, durability, construction requirements, economic impact, cost and other aspects as identified during the review.

The City of Malvern (official holder of the "404" permit) wants the design and subsequent construction to be suitable for a number of entities such as: Hot Springs County, Local and State Fire Department Rescue Squads, Rescue 3 Organizations, Swiftwater Rescue Instructors, and especially the Ouachita River Park Commission, Arkansas Game and Fish, and the ACC.

Based on all of these enitites being involved in not only the Lower Ledge Feature, but the entire Ouachita River Park Plan, the review will take coordination between all of the participating groups and give and take of each other's desires and requirements.

We expect the review to be completed within the next 2 to 3 weeks and the discussion with McLaughlin Whitewater Design to occur after that.

The Ouachita River Park Commission is meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the pavilion by the boat ramp near the ledge. The preliminary plans will be discussed; all interested persons are invited to attend; bring a chair.
