If you don't quite know what you are looking for then a great opportunity to demo multiple boats would be at the ACC's Rendezvous, Sept. 10-12. Trying before you buy is an excellent way to discover what you are most comfortable paddling. If you aren't able to attend Rendezvous then I welcome you to demo one of the fine canoes that are available through the Mohawk Canoes-Fort Smith Shop.

Re: Solo canoe wanted
I just read about it sounds awesome. I'm just itching to buy something already but, thank you!
Re: Solo canoe wanted
I have a friend who gets that itch to buy and just can't resist... The last time he jumped to scratch it cost him $700 over what we bought the very next week!! Scratch something else until Rendezvous where you can see what's available from the dealers and used-sellers who'll be there. You won't regret it... well, not for long:) Crane

Great advice Crane. Let someone else deal with the depreciation of a new boat.Crane wrote:I have a friend who gets that itch to buy and just can't resist... Another reason for Rendezvous being a good event to buy a used boat at is that you can usually find a knowledgeable paddler or two walking around ready to give advice on whether or not the particular boat in question is a good fit and steer buyers clear of lemons.
ACC events are notorious for folks bringing boats 'out of the woodwork' to sell or trade. It's always exciting to see the different boats and gear that's brought to sell or trade. ACC members are kind and generous so the odds of someone letting you demo their boat before they sell it are good. Just don't let high pressure sales tactics lead you to an impulse buy.

Actually, Dave, that $700 plus savings for waiting a week was on a new raft where the price was discounted the next week! Sometimes, even our great local outfitters will offer specials and good deals at Rendezvous... in addition to the ones they give us year-round! Crane
