I need to get away from weeks of working at home and being held prisoner by heat and humidity. My buddy lives west of Atlanta and we want to meet for a weekend of camping and rec boating. I'd like to enjoy some whitewater, if possible, and he's a novice paddler. We'll have my two rec boats sans skirts.
All the camping around the Hiwassee is booked, Ocoee's not an option, nor is the Nanty with 60" open cockpits. He says the Tellico is too far (thus, the Nanty, too).
Does anyone know of somewhere in Northern Bama or Middle-Eastern TN where we might enjoy some cooler air, camping, and leisurely river and/or lake paddling weekend after next?

Still hot in northern bama and in east tn you have to go to wnc and get in to the mountains, good camping at Nelsons hideaway in topton, nc and you could do some boating on nantahala lake or on santeetlah lake or go on and run the nanty!

Little River in Alabama might have a trickle of water in the lower section..

Tellico is only an hour or so north of the Hiwassee and it has been pouring rain up there so it might be running.
