I've never been over to the Piney (I'm in Fayetteville). We tend to stay a little closer to home.
But it appears that right now the Big Piney below Longpool is showing low floatable at 1.5 (and holding-ish) and there's not really much else to float right now within two hours of us. Good float? Scrape and walk? Can bring less experienced rec boaters and canoers along?
Pondering a weekend outing, but probably couldn't do it until Sunday and I don't know if the level will hold, either!

Well the fine folks at Moore Outdoors told me to always add .7 to the Piney's river level for 'moore' accuracy. (: Please excuse the pun.
Ken paddled it yesterday and said that it's "low but floatable."

I think it is "possible" to float at 2.0 on Long Pool gage, or 1.3 by the USGS gage.
At that level, the challenge is whether or not you can find the channel that doesn't require some wading - a successful trip is if you never have to put your feet out and push.
The pools seem much longer. But yes, the plus side would be you could let your inexperienced friends tag along, and the primary dangers would be sunburn, and for some, alcholic dehydration.
