Heading for the Poudre (CO) next weekend

Post by Fish » Sun Jul 11, 2010 5:05 pm

If you're going to be heading out there or can get to KC for a ride out, give me a shout and we'll do some paddling.

Big water in KC today - I'll try to post some photos. 1" of rain in 40 min and then 3 hrs later another 0.75" in 30 min! Creeks went through the roof. Our local run had a wave hole of epic proportions on it - looked like high water on my Middle Fork run! Can't wait for CO in a week!

Re: Heading for the Poudre (CO) next weekend + KC big water pics

Here's a link to some KC pics from this past weekend. Indian Creek features a rapid that at about 1000 to 2000 cfs produces some very large waves and holes for about 150 yards. These photos were at about 1500 cfs or so on Sunday morning. The flow went to almost 3000 after another inch of rain hit in the afternoon.

Still heading to CO this weekend if any Arkies want to hit it. Looks like Poudre is holding above 2.5 feet (currently 3.0), so will take advantage of the endless miles of class 3-4 water there this weekend.

Kansas has whitewater? I'm shocked.

Actually, that's about 200 yards over the Missouri border, so it's technically MO whitewater. Which is still rather shocking.

Also the water quality is about like Fisher's Ford at floodstage with additonal logs, plastic bottles, paint cans, tennis balls, and other urban flotsam coming at you every 20 seconds. Quick reflexes and a full set of orifice plugs are essential components of a good surfing session. Love that urban runoff...
