Looking for stuff around Stillwater ok.
Im from NW ARK but currently working in Stillwater and im wanting to take a roll class and maybe a water rescue class if anyone knows of such over here... Even in OKC or Tulsa
Re: Looking for stuff around Stillwater ok.
Hey Z,
I don't know about classes, but I have friends in Stillwater and am trying to introduce them to paddling. I would recommend against trying Stillwater Creek until you and some buddies take a chainsaw creekwalk from the spillway to the middle of town.
I tried it a few months ago, and made an executive decision to cancel the trip early, as I didn't want to get myself or my friends stuck in the hundred strainers. This run looks like it would be fun Class II (and the only run anywhere near Stillwater for that matter) as soon as a group cuts up the strainers while the creek is real low or dry.
Good luck Z,
Tony

Not that I really care, cuz I'll probably never paddle it, but just from experience nobody will clean it up unless you organize a group. I wouldnt invite someone to run a new creek with me that I cleaned out, unless they helped....
Just sayin....

Checked it out last year and the year before ,and both times I was not impressed. practiced in the lake. and then T.W. don't run very often and not much there as far as tech. Wwater. If you are talken about the carl blackwell spillway. I think thats what all thats down there. Not sure it's worth a proper cleaning. form what I scouted.2cents

I was wanting to introduce some friends of mine in Stillwater to whitewater, and the only thing ANYWHERE close to Stillwater, OK is Stillwater Creek. The Shuttle isn't bad, and the pickup points are in the middle of town! Supposedly runs well after 1+ inches of water.
I know it's only Class I-II, but it looks like it has some nice bends to it. Probably the most scenic way to view Stillwater. It would be good for introducing people to the sport. I would be willing to help clean it up, but I don't have a chainsaw. Also, I've become aware (from other posts) that there are environmental concerns surrounding how much and what you remove. I would like assistance or at least advice from someone who is in the environmental know. Also, I don't go to Stillwater all the time, more like once a month or so. But, if it could be planned, cleaning up the creek would help spread the sport to more Okies.

There's a paddle session Friday night in OKC.
You can't control the waves, but you can learn to surf!
