Buffalo River question

Post by SteveGabbard » Tue Jul 06, 2010 11:27 am

A friend was asking me about a Buffalo River trip he is considering on July 11. I told him I would try to get him some info.

He is not a floater and his family of 5 is considering renting a raft on Saturday. What would the best section be right now? Will he be dragging the raft for half the trip?

Thanks
Steve

at the low water levels i don't think anyone will rent rafts!. call buffalo river float service. (one of our business members) and ask them.

Go low...

I floated Gilbert to Spring Creek a couple weeks ago and I wouldn't have wanted to float it much lower.

I'm planning on Buffalo Point to Rush this Thursday with some out of town family. That's a nice easy stretch for non-paddlers. You can even create a human pontoon outrigger for your rental canoes (just swim beside them) for a weather-appropriate pastime.
Cheers,

Jason

Looking at floating the end of this month through the wilderness area (Rush Landing to Buffalo City). Anyone familiar with the area know how it usually is that late in the year?

Most likely low. Pool - drag - pool - drag. There is a 1/2 mile long rock garden near Gray Face. Not fun.

My choice when the Buffalo is low is the White River from Norfork to Allison or go up to the Eleven Point in Missouri.

We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.

Floated Grinders ferry to Hwy 14 this past Wed-Fri. Even with the rain on Thursday there was a good amount of dragging required.
