Hi all,
My wife and I just got a couple of kayaks a few months ago, and joined ACC right away. We're having a great time just hitting a few of the area lakes, but would like to venture out to some easy rec type streams. We've both done a few river trips up in WI, but nothing around here. I know it's not the best time of year for that, but I'm looking for recomendations. We live in Bella Vista. I've heard parts of the Kings and War Eagle can be good this time of year, but I'm not sure what levels/locations i should be looking at. Any recomendataions would be greatly appreciated. Hope to meet a bunch of you all in the coming years.
Jack

Re: New Kayakers
Welcome!
The Kings River can be iffy this time of year, and I have not talked to any locals the last few days. ( I was at Rec School. ) I am planning to go to Eureka Springs the 5th or 6th for about a week. I'm hoping to float from the Hwy 62 bridge near Berryville, to the Hwy 143 bridge near Grandview, or on down to Stoney Point. You're welcome to join me. Kings River is the first river I floated, and one of my favorites.
Send me a PM if you'd like.
Have you paddled to slippery Falls at Hog Scald on Beaver Lake? Another favorite of mine. Nice for a beginner. Short easy trip.

"Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave intending to arrive safely in an attractive, well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, a paddle in your hands, body totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Re: New Kayakers
Thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned we both have rec kayaks and are looking for Class 1 or smoother Class 11 trips. We're going to head out tomarrow and just check out Lake Leatherwood for a few hours.
Re: New Kayakers
And no, I haven't done hogscald. Where do you put in/take out at?
Re: New Kayakers
if you want an easy and nice trip try the white from Beaver Dam. You have options on where to pull out from Bertrand ( maybe 2.5 ) to Housemans ( about 6-7) to all the way to The town of Beaver ( at least 13 ). easy floating even if they generate and good senery.

Welcome!
Well, this record setting heat and drought has the Kings (and just about everything else around here) too low to float. But after we get some rain, one nice stretch for you to check out is from Rockhouse to Trigger Gap (or from Trigger Gap down to McMullen Farm).
One reason that trips involving Trigger Gap are good is that you can get both shuttle service and really accurate info from the nice folks at Kings River Outfitters. They'll be able to tell you the water level, whether there are any hazards (you know, like a newly fallen tree or anything) and give you any pointers you might need. They have a website.
In the meantime, I'd bet that the Elk is floatable right now (but low). It has a reputation as a party river, but if you can go on a weekday it's fine.
