6/28 or 6/29 flat water trip?

Post by vtsquid » Sat Jun 26, 2010 4:28 am

Any one interested, I will be solo canoeing some where
Haven't decided just yet, so far my ideas are Lake Greeson (some where), Lake Degray from Amity landing up to 84 bridge then back, or Lake Catherine from Remmel Damn Road to the falls and explore from there.

Just me and the dog, the girl will be at work all day, so the boys get to play  haha, My plan is to get to where ever by 9am, seem like that is always a good time to get to the lake, and try to get off the lake between 1400 and 1500 so I can get home and make dinner!

If you would like to join me for a kinda lazy exploring day and want to go some where other than what I am lookin at, please suggest something, if it involves water, and me in it, on it or by it, Im happy :D

see ya on the water

I'm getting out and exploring lakes and backwaters in my rec boat these days. I live in NLR and have been covering lots of local stuff lately. Don't mind running to HS now and then or even Dardenelle. Holler again.

Well I did make it out yesterday, had a great trip on Greeson, Today was a noshow for me, I snoozed the alarm way too many times, got up at 1000 and realized how many things needed doing at home.

also my poison ivy has been driving me up the wall

Greeson was a nice calm quiet day, a slight wind that if I did not pay attention would throw me off where I wanted to go, but it was manageable! I did find at the end of one of the inlets a great little maze of trees and shrubs to navigate to boat around. I had great fun in there. The dog was in the boat the whole time, he enjoyed sitting on the front seat. We did sneak up on a dear which was cool, scared him off and he grunted at us for a while as we passed. right after that something bumped the bottom of the boat. Was not a tree trunk or anything that I could see looking back, but there was alot of fish activity.

While paddling out, I did find a stray Jug fishing line with a larger catfish on it, the Hook was HUGE!, way to big for the fish and his mouth was injured because of it. I sat there for a while thinking of what I should do with it, watching the fishermen fly around the outskirts of the lake... If I had my knife handy which i forgot on the kitchen table, I would have cut the line and tossed the noodle when I got back to shore (im not a fan of jug fishing at all!) But with all the fishermen watching I just tossed it back... Now that I look back on it, I really wish I had dehooked the fish and threw out the noodle... Next time!

Other than that, really nice trip, the water was high enough to play around the bridge supports, which I did do, that was alot of fun and really tested my control of the boat!

good trip all in all!

lalyle I will pm you on my next trip out on the water if you would like!
I am willing to dive anywhere around the state too or further if you have any ideas

Bryan
