I have bought many paddles and have had them shipped successfully before by both UPS and FEDEX.

However, I will not us UPS again. I broke a blade of of my werner powerhouse and was sending it back to them via UPS.

Today I recieved an email from werner asking why i sent just a shaft to them.

Apparently UPS was able to break the good blade off and lose it totally out of the double wrapped cardboard. They also cracked the shaft that made it to Werner.

I used the guidance of Werner and the knowledge of how the other paddles I have recieved to pack my paddle. I double wrapped the blade and shaft in cardboard and tucked the ends inside to ensure that it wouldn't slide out. That was then encased in about a half roll of packing tape. I can't for the life of me imagine first how they broke it and second how they lost the blade.

I am in negotiations with UPS over the insurance, but am not holding out hope for full settlement. In the past I have only ever recovered the shipping i paid never the insured value of the product and that was only on small value items. They always hide behind the "improper packing."

Sorry about the rant. Just needed to vent. If you use UPS be careful.

Eric, we ship a lot of items with UPS everyday. And occasionally we have to file a damage claim.

The person who initially handles your claim may go through the standard response: not packed properly so not our fault. Tell the person that the paddle was, in fact, packed to industry standards and ask to talk to a supervisor. Once you get to the second level, you'll have a better chance of getting a total reimbursement. If you stated the value of the paddle when you shipped it (rather than taking the default), you have improved your chances of getting full restitution.

When my son was in the Marine Corps he shipped his very expensive trumpet home by UPS, packed in its case and correctly. They lost it, then when they located it and it arrived only in the case and the case was not zipped. The bell on the trumpet was dented in. We finally got a settlement with them but was a big pain in the butt. They gave us enough to repair the bell on the instrument.

UPS The largest above board MAFIA owned operation on the planet. Never use em myself, and I request Fed Ex when I do have to have something shipped. You think they treat you with no respect, talk to some of their former employees. They will work you to the bone, and then fire you before you can get to the Doctor to find out whats wrong with you. I've heard many story's about this. Theirs a class action suite pending!
