I know nothing about this person but a wooden Kayak, that would be something to see. As a kid I saw many Old Town wood and canvas canoes, in fact my uncle owned one and now it is in a museum after my Father reconditioned it, that is cool...

Lots of boating uses epoxy and wood.

Look at WEST epoxy systems, for various applications, or CLC (Chesapeake Light Craft) website for kayak and boat kits. Wooden (plywood) drift boats kits are covered with epoxy.

Somebody in Fayetteville (sorry don't know who, a friend spotted him working outside one day) is possibly building wood sea kayaks.

I have a pretty wooden kayak for sale if there is any interest. It is a CLC sea kayak. I would post a pic but I don`t know how yet. Where do I find out instructions?

Quite a few of these hand made sea kayaks and canoes have been seen in the area over the years.

all are beautiful to look at, extremely light weight and from what I am told really tough boats long as you give reasonable care on rock spins and boof moves.

All I have seen were thin sliced wood sections over a frame and covered with some sort of fiberglass. The fiberglass waterproof's the wood and gives excellent protection and impact resistance.

Like I posted, never seen one of these boats with bad craftsman ship. A lot I guess is the builder's skill. The kits seem to have good instructions, but my guess is I probably do not have the patience it takes to do the detail assembly.

Still these are beautiful boats!!!

I had a friend(Gary Lavender) in Richland, Virgina, who had built a wood whitewater kayak, and even ran it on the Upper Gualey. Wish i had a picture!! dale

One Ocoee trip, I pulled into an eddy with a woman sitting in a wooden whitewater kayak. Hardly any marks on it all. It was a work of art on its own. Asked her about it, and she replied that she built it herself. Turned out she was a materials engineer in the areospace businesss.

i've got a 16' strongback and forms for sale or trade on the gear swap board. i'll be removing it off the mold in two weeks so it will be available after that.

In Fayetteville, Skip Beaton(cabinet maker by trade) makes kayaks. He makes them innuit style with a wooden skeleton and stretches fabric over the skeleton, then resins up the fabric. He actually made a playboat a while back. Mainly sea kayaks though. His shop is on the corner of MLK(6th) and Hill caddy corner from Brenda's bigger burgers. He told me to let people know about them, so here you go. He'll talk your ear off and is a good guy.
