Mike and I are researching tandem canoes for overnight trips on the Buffalo. I remember some wonderful discussions on these, but can't locate them using the search function. One in particular included an indepth comparison by Cowper. It may have been longer ago than I thought, and therefore no longer accessible on the board.
We want a 16' tandem that can handle light whitewater that is not too slow, but not too tippy. Any recommendations?

I like my Bell Alaskan 17' for my river camping journeys.
Turns o-k and holds track fairly well.

There are several good boats on the market that fit your needs. If you find yourself checking out Mohawk's line, keep in mind that I have boats available for demo/sale at the Mohawk shop in Fort Smith. I'm currently working at the Mohawk factory in Chattanooga, but I'll be back in the Fort the first week of July. That said, if you're lucky enough to find a good deal on a used Mohawk, go for it! Let me know if I can help.

Thanks to everyone for the input. We decided to buy Gordon's 16' Bell Yellowstone after he made us an offer we couldn't refuse! We doubt we'll use it for more than Buffalo camping trips, so it seemed to fit the bill. We had borrowed it from Gordon last fall for a trip, and the test run went fine.

I had an 17' Old Town Tripper which I sold..a decision I have always regretted. It handled a ton of gear and would easily navigate Class 11-11 water. I fully intend to replace it one day. A great classic expedition boat!
