Caddo River Saturday EARLY changed

Post by Louiscov » Thu Jun 17, 2010 6:10 pm

Going to paddle Narrows to Glenwood Saturday morning; hoping to leave Glenwood at 8:00 am to put in ahead of the rental swarm. Flow should still be over 200 cfs, low but enjoyable. Any early birds out there?

Louis,

I think that section will have just enough water still that you all won't have to drag. It sounds like you have a good plan, putting-in fairly early to beat the heat, and from our experiences last weekend, the river temp.is very refreshing!
I too am thinking about a Caddo float on Saturday but will probably wait until mid-morning Friday to make a post to any interested parties. My hope is that the river will still be around 5.50-5-70 feet at 10 am or so on Saturday, and to put-in at the G&F access at Glenwood for the 9mile+ trip to the Hwy 182 bridge at Amity. I'm hoping for enough water not to drag, plenty of shady avenues , much swimming, and just a curiosity about how that section faired during the high water of the recent flood.

Best Regards
Jim

Jim, Louis,

I have subscribed to the USGS water alert for the Caddo. It automatically sends me an email every day between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. if the Caddo is between 5.75' and 7.25'. Using extrapolation and the last 5 days readings (6/13=7.19', 6/14=6.80', 6/15=6.61', 6/16=6.45', 6/17=6.33') the Caddo should be right at 6.0' Sat. at 10:00. Can calculate more accurately after I receive todays reading. Will post back when I recieve it.

Excellent information, AR-Nimrod. Thanks!

The Caddo seems to be holding nicely after a hot dry week and will still be fun on Saturday. I'll look forward to your post.

Today's reading is 6.25' so tomorrow the Caddo should be approx. 6.17-6.18' at 10:00 a.m. That should make for a pretty good float. Wish I could join y'all but even a float trip won't get me out of mowing the yard tomorrow a.m. :( Have fun!
