Steve Elbein
Steve Elbein
Just received word from Helene that Steve passed away last week. She just wasn't ready to go online and post this, but did want to let all of their Canoe Club Family know. They had recently moved to North Carolina where he took a position at Wake Forest University, doing research he loved, and very happy.
He was on a bike ride when he had a massive heart attack and passed away. He left this world doing something he loved.
There will be a second memorial service in Little Rock in the coming weeks, which Helene is sending me the information. There will also be some information coming as to where to donate in lieu of flowers.
Steve will be missed by all who knew him.

Re: Steve Elbein
Jeremy, thank you for posting for Helene and letting us know. Please keep us posted if there's anything friends at the ACC can do to help. I remember him and his whole family coming on several trips with us...a paddling family. Very sad loss - my deepest sympathies to Helene and their kids.
I remembered I had some shots of Steve from some trips we did - here are a few from the Cossatot in 2007.

My thoughts and condolences to Helene and family.
Re: Steve Elbein
The Head-Little household is stunned and deeply saddened by this news. I was missing the Elbeins last week, wishing I'd see them on a river or in Little Rock some time soon. Helene, when you read this, let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

My condolences to the family. I was really saddened to hear this. I remember paddling with Steve at the pool often, almost always with family in tow. He was a really nice guy, and will be greatly missed.

Re: Steve Elbein
Sad news indeed.
Met Steve at a WFR class some years ago and paddled with him now and then.
We lost another fine paddler and friend.
Prayers go out to the family.
