a little story

Post by Clif » Mon May 24, 2010 9:58 pm

We took our teen and close church boys on a campout. Decided to just go to the lake in light of prolly be too high to let them float at Tyler Bend which was the original plan. With the way most of these guys drove boats, it was a good option.

We paddled about 1/2 a mile up an inlet on the lake as it narrowed down to what must have been a neat creek in pre-lake days. Me, rpm max, Q in the 2fun and 2 canoes full of boys. Nice 4 foot fall and all kinds of crazy squirrely water along side the main current below it. We had to drag over some rocks to get up to it.

Big eddy along one bank would pull you almost to the bottom of the fall. Q was gettin braver, doing great as he would ferry and s turn but slacking off to hit the opposite eddy. I warned him.. paddle on across... "I am." But he wasn't. Finally. Squirrely water stopped him, current grabbed his stern. Hello fishies.

One of the boys was loving it. He went thru 3 others in my buffy barge (big retired rental Buffalo canoe) with him in the bow doing the loop over and over. One would get out he would recruit another to go with him. Couldn't get enough. I may have created a wwater junkie??? Up to the fall spin around, come whooshing out, had to cut hard to miss a rock then back to the eddy to go again.

Q got over the scared and was back at it. Go boy. Tilting the boat well. Had to pass this story to a few as actually he was very excited about it. Did not come out of the water that way, but by last night we were hearing it over and over as he tried to understand what he did. After he got over the shock he was back in the boat and trying again. Soon shooting for the same eddy that did him in.

A little impromtu boatball in our yaks, 2 boys swimming and 2 in a wally world raft. I think we all had to go home and sleep it off. So while I began the weekend almost whining that I could not go with my son to hit some ample water, it all was good in the end. What a day!
You sure this is on the right channel?

Sounds like a good time was had by all. We had a similar trip back in Mar. Wound up at Shady Lake instead of a river with a small group of youths from church. Big rain that particular Wed. night nixed a float with novices for Thur. and Fri. Still had a good time. I'll take camping with a bunch of kids over work any day.

That is a great little story. Some of my best times with Lance have been just goofing off on or in the water.

I've felt the touch of healing hands, neath the willow trees and birch, cause the water's my religion, and the river is my church. Kenny
