Does anyone have any info/hints/tips for floating the White River at Sylamore? I've signed up for the 10-mile, not with hopes of competing in the finishing speed but in hopes of simply making it from start to finish without swimming . . . :chicken:
Thanks!
Jan

Oh, anyone else going??

Boswell Shoals to Syllamore is class I moving water with some riffles but no rapids. Very easy paddling unless you have a headwind to deal with. The water can be COLD.

I found the website for the race.

Are you entered in the race?

I am considering the 10 mile.

I went up there today to check it out. Flat water, very fast, about 11-12' deep. Norfork Dam generation schedule eight 70 four 31 five 311. I've floated White River below Beaver Dam to Bertrand when they were generating two units, and did not like the swirling water at all. This is lots farther from the dam, and seems not so swirly. It is very cold. I noticed in photos from last years race, that nobody had on wetsuits, just bike shorts and T-shirts.

I have not researched the Sylamore and Syllamo names, but they are both on different areas in the Ozark National Forest.

http://www.syllamo.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has race info. They use USCA rules instead of ACA.
10 mile race starts at 10 a.m. @ Boswell off Hwy 5. (Optimus River Road). They have good maps of the race course and roads to take there. Easy to find it. Looks like an easy float.

See you there?!?
