From the NWS Forecast discussion this morning:

STRONG SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL BRING COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF GULF MOISTURE INTO THE AREA...WITH PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES IN THE 1.5 TO 2 INCH RANGE. STORMS WILL TEND TO DEVELOP AND MOVE OVER THE SAME AREAS...WHICH WILL INCREASE HEAVY RAINFALL POTENTIAL. TWO TO FOUR INCHES OF RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE OVER MUCH OF THE AREA...MAINLY EAST OF A LINE FROM MOUNTAIN HOME...TO CLINTON...TO MURFREESBORO. FOR THIS REASON...HAVE GONE AHEAD AND POSTED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING EARLY.

STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...AND AGAIN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

Most of the boating area is not included in that watch, and beyond that this setup has been considerably marginalized for the Ozarks compared to what it was two days ago (in terms of both boating potential and severe weather capability). 1 to 2 inches of rain is cool, but I think we all understand that will practically do nothing for the steeps over the span of three days.

The Wichita, KS NWS Discussion from yesterday morning summed it up pretty well, "What was shaping up to be a potentially significant severe event has turned into a big question mark." Now not that Richland doesn't have a fair shot at going, but unless you want to catch the "surge" on the Mississippi there aren't many runs in that eastern target area.

Possum and Wolf are far enough east that they might get some. In any case, it ought to make for a slightly fluffier level for canoe school where we could use a bit more water. Hopefully will rain only when I'm in my tent sleeping tho... :)

Actually, don't get your hopes up. For the first time in over a month, I have more than one day off in a row. Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun.
