Gas lines across the East Cadron
Gas lines across the East Cadron
I paddled the East Fork of the Cadron from Hwy 36 to the bridge by Barney and there were two natural gas pipe lines across the river. One was tied up to some trees so we could pass under it near the shore. The other one was lower and we had to get up enough speed to get over it. Does anyone know if it is legal for them to block the river? Also, we saw two stations where they are pumping water out of the river.

Re: Gas lines across the East Cadron
Robert,
It is one of my favorite trips. Next time I go I will make an announcement to see if more would to go. I like it much better than the North Fork. There are several trees down across the river that need to be cut up. Last summer I cleared three miles of the river but need to do the whole thing so it is more fun when the water is higher.

They are pumping water out of the North Fork of Cadron Creek, too, near Hwy 356. Am planning to float there today or tomorrow, will check on it.
Did anyone read the front page of the DemoZette Business section yesterday, about the damage in Texas by the gas companies? Arkansas needs to quit thinking about $$$$ and think about the consequences of consumer greed.

Re: Gas lines across the East Cadron
Wasn't that article predominantly about damage from an explosion of a decades old, obscured pipeline laying on or near the the surface after it was damaged by a farmer's tractor? I don't think any new transportation lines are ever less than 6 feet below grade (not likely a farmer's going to clip any line crossing a creek).
If you've followed the recent climate bill discussions, a central feature is the development of domestic natural gas, which although a carbon energy source, is by far the cleanest, particularly compared to coal or foreign oil.
There undoubtedly needs to be greater asurances from industry and governing regulators regarding the effects of fracing on water supplies. But until we all turn off the lights, shut down the tv and internet, learn to enjoy the simple things close to home and develop alternative sources of energy, natural gas development is in our future.

what kind of pipe was it? just wondering if its a gas line or a water line
Re: Gas lines across the East Cadron
Will bet it is water line. They laid one across the property next to the highway in front of our house. It's lightweight aluminum and in sections. See all over a four-county area here. The destination is a drilling operation followed by the fracturing (frac) process. Both are water-intensive.prophet wrote:a gas line or a water line
A column in the DOG discussed the proposed plan to tunnel under the area of Cow Shoals on the Little Red River to lay a pipeline. Planners did not know that the 60+ acre area required a long process for approval. Needless to say, that got shot down real quick.
Pipelines must be buried to certain depths as Butch mentioned. I am seeing the ROW's being developed, the clearing, trenching, welding, and support service activity. Had a gas line laid less than a 100 yards from the house on the next property.
Got mixed emotions about the situation. Oh, well!

i doubted they hung a gas line in the trees across a creek
feel free to shut down the shale drilling, its killing the older conventional areas.

If it was black pipe it was gas, if it was silver it was water.I have seen them run a temp. Line across a creek while they are waiting on the bore( pine mt. Creek outside of dumascus).I make my living off the gas companys and I say we would be better in the long run to send them packing. Just my 2$ worth

Down to a point on that river, yes. One drilling location near the Hwy. 124 bridge over the Little Red in White County is real close to the river. Not sure of its proximity, but close all the same. Not sure of regulations regarding any setback requirement in such a case. They have pulled water out of the river in the lower area and from a tributary, Big Creek, also.gannon311 wrote:ADEQ and the Corp. Are very strict about the little red and it's tribs.
The damage to the highways in the area is unbelievable. If you drive the same road five days a week, you literally watch the destruction of the road/stretch in slow motion. A large number of the trucks are running out-of-state licenses and often 3-7 together in a close group.
I understand the need for energy independence, but just giving them the keys to our resources in such a manner does not seem like a good idea.

Re: Gas lines across the East Cadron
Both of the pipes were black pipe about 8-10 inches in diameter. It came from on top of the ground across the river and back on top of the ground. I could not tell if the pipe was in sections or not.
