Full face Helmets
Full face Helmets
Anyone used the predator six, fna xtreme, or the shred ready full face? Shred ready just came out with a carbon version of the full face that looks pretty nice. Just curious if any of you Arkansans have any input, I don't trust those Canadiens or Coloradoans, (This means you Sean)

I have the FnA full face and really like it. I'd like to keep all my teeth.

I have the FNA and also really like it. After flipping at LSU and managing to smash the bridge of my nose with my paddle shaft even WITH the full face helmet, I now have a vertical black diamond bar installed which makes it even more bomber. And, the vertical bar doesn't really interfere with my vision.
Plus, FNA will do pretty custom colors for you.

Got the Shred Ready and am impressed so far for the price. While upside down I banged a couple of times and noticed that it is very shock absorbant and dissipates impact well. My only dissatisfaction is that the mesh liner rubs my forehead if I don't wear a head sock or something.

Re: Full face Helmets
Having broken my nose in the first demonstration game I played (it truely was an accident - I was upside down and received the front end of someone's playboat who did an ender to try to grab the ball near the goal, not realizing that I was upside downfacing them) , my wife insisted on me getting a helmet with a cage like I used to use for ice and street hockey if I was going to continue to play as a cheaper form of insurance.
I still have it if anyone wants to borrow it.
ACC NW chapter boatball really isn't violent and any one can play safely. I still remember a 5 year old playing from the front of his dad's canoe here at the cove on Monte Ne. He handed me the ball and everyone else made me give it back with many boos and hisses, for my having dribbled away with it. Fair play and sportsmanship are strictly enforced.
I have also never heard any of the women that play complain about it being too rough more than once. When they did, the play was immediately toned down, as we want everyone who can play to come.
Maybe you need to recruit and keep more women players if things are getting out of hand or get one to be a ref, with the authority to call timeouts and award penalty minutes to any individual players whose testosterone levels get out of hand.
Play can get a tad vigorous at time when it is between some of the more physical players, but when you do not bother to keep score, it is not about teams, but the boat handleing and paddleing. Much more interesting than sprinting on the lake, which is the only other thing I know to do to work on one's conditioning if one does not get into play boating in holes.
If my neck wasn't in the shape that it is, I would still be out there playing, in spite of the 45 minute drive from Monte Ne. It is the best way to practice for whitewater on flatwater that I know of, and a super way to condition when none of our rivers or creeks have water to paddle on.
If the water on the West Fork dries up as it does some years, come on up to Monte Ne cove to play again and I will host a cook out after the game.
It would also give y'all a place to change and shower after the game, and a screened in porch on which to relax apres' boatball.

Thanks guys. Also wanted to say that this is not boatball related, I just want to save my face from the next rock that comes at me. Wouldn't want to upset the ladies.

The foam in the FnA full face is kinda thin, but no trouble with that. I tried a full face with the bar and it seems to make me cross eyed, might just be me but it sure was a trip! Happy Hunt'in

Re: Full face Helmets
I'm glad Tim answered about the foam, because my experience probably doesn't count! I have a really SMALL head, and they send you a TON of foam strips that you add to the helmet to customize the fit. Well, for me and my small noggin, I added almost ALL that foam, so I have like an inch of foam throughout the whole helmet on top of what is already there.
But people with normal size heads would not have anywhere near as much foam!!!
Good point, too, that Tim had trouble with the cross-bar...I wanted to share that I didn't have any trouble with it, but it's clearly a more personal experience thing!
Happy helmet shopping!

Found a sweet deal on the predator, so I'll let you know how that turns out.

Re: Full face Helmets
There is a full face Prijon helmet on eBay right now if anyone is interested.
Looks interesting, but it also looks draggy.

Leedom Duel is my favorite full face helmet. The big plus is this helmet comes in xxl sizes.
Been using Leedom helmets for years. They are certified as snow racing helmets to a requirement higher than most white water helmets.
