Looking to get into solo WW canoeing. . got a old rental buffalo, but was wanting to pick up a used Mohawk xl-13 to learn on. . 6'2 235 UofA student. . saw this http://fayar.craigslist.org/boa/1645685761.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and im wondering if this would work. . also how much do you think it would cost to get it up and running? We got to float the mulberry this past thursday and friday. . i think i learned my lesson camping at turner bend having to wake up every 15 mins to a Semi engine braking when they go by. . aslo when we took out at redding on the second day there was a guy sitting across the river playing his guitar and singing so i was jealous we didnt get to relax there.. anyways i know im too late for the WW school, but im pretty much a noob on WW and would like to learn. .

Get in on the other school. The basics apply for paddling period and the stuff learned will only help.

I don't think my canoe is up to par. . i dont have any air bags or bow and stern lines. .also its a tandem canoe and would like to learn on a solo. . it being a buffalo i could sit in the front seat and turn it around. Do people have solo boats to rent or borrow at the school? very interested thanks

I have an XL13 that I'll sell for $650. It has good airbags and a Mohawk saddle and straps. It is ready to paddle. Paddle and PFD are all you need to add (and perhaps a helmet). Color is red; airbags are yellow.

a little steep for me right now. . might take you up on that offer when i get my student loan money in the fall if it still around . .

also, where is the best place to get to demo these boats.

he is repping out of ft. smith. not sure what his demo situation is like right now after the mohawk move back to chattanooga, but he would surely have something to try out. i believe he will be out at canoe school.

Coach, there isn't a XL12 shown on Mohawk's website, however it's possible that Mohawk has discontinued that specific length. I only mention this because weight certainly is a factor in what boat you purchase. I'm about your size and I paddle a Mohawk Probe 12 (actually a 13 @ 12'-8") and a Probe 14. I know this isn't the right forum but I'd like to sell the Probe 12. it's red with new red air bags, Mohawk saddle and double thigh strap. Canoe has skid plate on bow and a patch under the saddle. I cracked the boat on Hurricane Creek last year and repaired the damage correctly. I've paddled Mulberry twice this year w/ it. It's a good boat and foot shorter than the one I learned in. I'd be willing to part with it for $400.00.

If you're interested in participating in Canoe School you should give Marc Van Camp a shout via email, there may very well be an opening left for solo open boat.

First find out if you can get into a solo class at Whitewater School. Then we'll ensure you have a boat and helmet to use.

Hey Coach... The boat Steve is selling is a pretty fair deal. I doubt you will find a decent boat at much better price. I'd reconsider trying to go cheaper that $650.00. Steve knows his stuff and will give you $100.00 worth of advice too at no extra charge I'm sure. Welcome to the A.C.C.!!

No doubt its a good deal. My personal problem is that I can't always afford good deals. I have to buy what I can afford.

Exactly. You buy what one can afford, assuming it meets your needs. $400.00 isn't much for a outfitted whitewater canoe. if I don't sell it prior to whitewater school then I'll paddle it during the solo open boat class. I wouldn't hesitate to take this canoe back to the Cossatot or Hurricane creek. I certainly wouldn't offer to sell it if I doubted the integrity of the repair.

After reading this thread more closely actually $400.00 seems like a good deal on a Probe 12 too. Solo boats for sale.........Hmmmm. I see a trend. :)
