Nice shots, Perspective7!

I wonder if I might bounce a couple of questions off you regarding Richland?

I see you made it to the Twin Devils. I've never been to them on foot (well, except for walking up to them from the Richland, of course). I know a couple of people that would like to walk in to them. Did you come in from the top or from the campground? On the campground side of Richland? Could it be done in a day hike (in and back)? Any idea what Richland was running that time? I know there are a couple of creek crossings from the campground. Falling Water and Richland itself.

Thanks for any help perspective7! The way I understand it, these guys made an attempt to get into the falls and failed. Their second failure. They were asking me the other day if I could get some info for them.

You don't have to cross Richland until you get up to just below the shoals below the falls. There was only one place to cross when I was there at 70 cfs, with a little boulder hopping (without getting wet!) There is a trail on the river right side that goes all the way up to the falls, and maybe beyond (didn't make it that far). You get to the trail by hiking through the campground and crossing Falling water creek (another tricky spot if you don't want to get wet), and going up the hill...there are pink markers hanging from trees marking the whole trail. After you get across Richland below the falls you can hike back down and take the stream bed or the trail up to the twin falls. Any higher water than 80 cfs or so, I would take sandals (or extra socks :D )

It took me about 2.5 - 3 hours to get to the twin falls, but I am a "marathon hiker", but I also stop and take pictures... It could be done in a day...but I would start early if you want to have time to screw around or go for a swim.

I've got to go back down there and put back the body board I found, so if anyone is going I may tag along..let me know...I'm free most weekends and would like to get the board back down there before the season really gets underway.

I remember those rapids on Adkins Cr. and the side falls - great place to hike or paddle. However, the trees were bad in the upper creek when I hiked down there last fall. Your photos show that. The lower part of the creek looks like it has fewer trees in it though - is that the case? I didn't hike much below "The Last Step" - that first slide fall.

I'm looking at these Richland pics and wondering whether anyone has ever, when bored and aching to get on water, made the trip with the water at a level like this. I don't know how that would change any risks, or whether it would be even possible to make it down. Obviously some things would be done differently, but it still seems possible. Does anyone know anything more?

Eric: Thanx

Fish:
The extreme upper part of the creek(above the steps), is full of logs, but I don't think people usually put-in up that far. Around 'the steps' is pretty clear. The most of the logs seem to be in the middle and the extreme upper section, while the lower section is pretty clear as you said. Don't get me wrong, there still are some big logs in the lower section. A couple or three guys with chainsaws could take care of a lot in a weekend!

Elduderino:
There would be a lot of scrapin' and most of the shoals would have to be portaged...with no deep water and tons of rocks I think it would just be plain dangerous. That's why I went hiking by myself!
