Re: Perception 3d for first boat?
I got one for my first whitewater boat and loved it. Obviously, I've changed choice in boats over the years, but it will serve you well, is a forgiving boat, and a pretty good river runner too.
If the price is right, I'd say snag it.

Depends a bit on your weight and height. I can barely fit into one at 6'3" and size 11 feet. Uncomfortable as all get out for me. Also, if you're over 200 lb, expect the boat to be really unstable. It'll dump you on your butt a lot when you're starting out with it, but that can encourage a quick learning curve, which ain't a bad thing. Good luck with it!

Got a 3D at the house I've paddled for years. I second Fish's caution about size and comfort. I'm 6 ft tall, but skinny--about 155-160 lbs. Size 11 feet. Much bigger than this and you're going to be uncomfortable. ONe of the reasons I've switched to a Jackson Hero recently is for more comfort. That said, I've had lots of fun with the 3D on lots of different rivers. Not a great boat for creeking, obviously, but pretty good for river running and such. You're welcome to come try mine out for fit and performance.

better starter boats out there in my opinion. 3d would not be that great for creekin and it is such an old design it better be really cheap like $200 or less. Of course this is my opinion.
