Cool! That works for me. Thanks!
Re: I got the Message Board to log me in automatically...
That's one tiny step forward after one giant step back. I don't see what there is to celebrate. Why can't we just go back to where we were which was a giant step back from where we were before that.
We are all afflicted with Cognitive Dissonance. The greater our religious, social, financial or political affiliation, the greater the affliction. We hear what we want to hear. We believe what we want to believe. Truth becomes irrelevant.
Re: I got the Message Board to log me in automatically...
I was wondering if that would work, just hadn't tried it yet.
Richard, you do know some of these "backward steps" were by force and not design, right? In other woids, changes had to be made. Not just cuz someone tried to make something better, but because this is getting too big, or too old or not keeping up with "progress!"
Never mind those setbacks and let's get up on the Buffy!

Actually for me it only worked temporarily. After shutting down my computer and restarting this morning, I'm no longer logged in. Oh well, not a crisis.
Re: I got the Message Board to log me in automatically...
Yes, I had the same thing occur. At any rate it might give those that understand such things a clearer picture of what the problem is.

Yep, the software isn't configured correctly or it's just not handling cookies well. Would be nice if it worked.

Re: I got the Message Board to log me in automatically...
I wrote this post over several times, as I do not want to come across as harsh as it probably reads. My apologies if it offends.
ACC has for many years enjoyed I/T volunteers with extensive technical skills and the time to devote to the club.
People move on to other jobs for many good reasons. That happened to our club.
The current message board software was purchased in good faith and offered what seemed to be software that could be maintained without the high level of technical knowledge our previous software needed.
Unfortunately start up and operation has run into some glitches. Made my living off business I/T and I promise the glitches on our conversion have been minimal when compared to what I saw in a lot of business conversions using package software.
Running a operation off of package software on a computer service is the way most American business operates these days. The 80 percent solution is the norm. That is just the way it is. Only a few operations will provide the money for custom applications. ACC is not flush with money and depends on volunteer help.
My take on this (I am not a member of the ACC BOD or an officer so I am posting just like any normal member's opinion) is that we as a group are lucky to have volunteers that have given their time so we can have a message board. I know they are busting their chops to make this thing work.
My bet is right now if anyone wanted to take over responsibility for running the ACC message board they could have the job.
Feedback given in private to the volunteers running this message board, is a good thing in my opinion. Public posts complaining over some issue that the volunteers are working on but just do not have control over, is not.
Flame away!

El Fisho,
remember I spent my last 17 years as CIO.
When ever the big boss caught me programming, I got a long speech on how he paid me to manage not program.
Alas, I do not have the technical skills I once had
and
have too much fun poking fun at anything concerning I/T these days to pull out the manuals and re invent myself technically.
You, however, are a Technical Guru - far more suited to ACC webmaster than I.
I was lucky to be in I/T during the "golden years".
Now, most every thing I/T is package software managed by so called "Help" Desk people out of Bangalore India.
The days of custom software that does the job well run on a computer set up just for that software are long gone. I got into a lot of discussions on the need for package software that meet 80 percent of the need but was available off the shelf now as opposed to meeting the needs with custom software written locally by American programmers and run on computers run by American operators. Now the entire deal is handled by so called "cheap" labor overseas. We are now a consumer driven economy that has moved most real factories over seas. Unfortunately, most consumers in the US have lost their income and cannot consume. Sigh.

No need to try to be modest. You CIO creds outrank my code monkey skills any day. We just need to add "Dave R., Message Board Czar" to the board of directors link to make it official. Then we can all file our complaints in private to you.okieboater wrote:You, however, are a Technical Guru - far more suited to ACC webmaster than I.
