What is the BEST hiking trail in Southern Ark?
I only have elementary knowledge so far, but i'm a fan of Athens Big Fork in Albert Pike. I'd like to know of a few other suggestions for hikes- could be day or overnight, I'm just looking for extreme gradiant with great views or anything else cool.

The only big trail I've done up there is Eagle Rock Loop. The best section was definitely from Albert Pike to Winding Stairs though. I'd recommend hiking in and camping at Winding Stairs. Then you could do a day hike over to Eagle Rock Vista.mgood wrote:I only have elementary knowledge so far, but i'm a fan of Athens Big Fork in Albert Pike. I was trying to get some personal preferances about certain trails. Online tour book stuff just doesn't do it for me like opinions do.

Cane Creek State Park in Star City has a pretty nice day loop. It's like the ONLY place in that part of AR with any gradient at all! Hardwoods and rolling hills... it was almost a like a little piece of home for me during 4 years of swamp and flat-land hell in Monticello...
Used to be just a little short 2.4 mile loop. Me and an ex and one of my surveying instructors laid out a 10 mile loop around 2006 that includes a nice scenic stretch along the levee. It's not the Ozarks or the Ouchitas.. but what can you realistically expect in SE AR?
Hope this helps.

Womble Trail.
Pretty good topography. Nice gradients. Good Bike trail and a nice long Hike.

section 1 of the oht from talimena to winding stair. good exercise, great scenery, and if you are lucky you can even run across sasquatch

I am confused you mention OHT, which I assume stands for Ozark Highlands Trail, but then mention winding stairs? Are there two different places named winding stairs or am I missing something?Half Ton wrote:section 1 of the oht from talimena to winding stair. good exercise, great scenery, and if you are lucky you can even run across sasquatch
