Get inspired and be challenged at the Whitewater Courses and Parks 2010: Making it Happen, Making it Work! If you are involved with or even thinking about getting involved in a Whitewater Course or Park, you don't want to miss this informative conference to be held May 24-27, 2010 in Salida, CO.

Whitewater Courses and Parks 2010: Making it Happen, Making it Work! keynote speakers will both inspire and challenge participants with hard-to-hear truths about the responsibilities of developers who promote atop the platform of outdoor recreation. The 3rd biennial conference for public works, parks and recreation, designers, engineers and river scientist will take place May 24-27, 2010 in Salida, CO.

Invited headliners are the architects of tomorrow’s new business models. Auden Schendler, Executive Director of Sustainability for Aspen Ski Mountain will advise what he believes is necessary to implement climate solutions in the real world. “We look forward to learning how Auden’s experience at one of the world’s storied resorts applies to river parks and courses that we assume create little impact,” notes Risa Shimoda, conference Co-Chair. Jed Selby, owner of South Main River Park, will continue the thread as the developer of a mixed-use community adjacent to the whitewater river park for which he has secured funds and engineering design. Competitive champion, historian and respected videographer Kent Ford will speak to the age-old quest for paddlers to find easier access to river excitement and fun.

Ed Councill, PIA CEO views the speaker lineup like a Who’s Who of whitewater parks. “Panelists include representatives of parks that have transformed communities like Reno, Nevada and Golden, Colorado,” notes Councill. “We will also hear from designers who have engineered and built Olympic whitewater courses, state and national agency staff, regulators, funders and risk management experts who can provide valuable guidance specific to in-channel and self-contained courses.”

Early registration is now open for Whitewater Courses and Parks 2010: Making it Happen, Making it Work! whose generous sponsors include the McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group, Recreational Engineering and Planning, Northwest Hydraulic Consultants and S2O Designs.
