WOW! Thanks Leigh.
The best quote was, "I want to be that 80 year old guy sitting on the porch saying 'I remember when', opposed to 'I wish I did'"

I did a lot of wishing before I was able to buy my canoe. One of the driving forces for me was meeting a group of people who were in their 70s on the 5th day of a 10 day trip down the Buffalo. My thought at the time was that this was something I could do till the day I die. That is still my objective and so far I am doing it.

Wonderful link, Leigh!! Awesome inspiration and appreciation for paddling OC!

Richard: Let's aim to be the 80 year old guys still paddling Ponca to Pruitt chilling around a full moon midnight campfire swapping paddlin'stories. And no wishin': let's go for it!!!

Thanks for the link, Leigh.

Another reason to go to Canoecopia this year.

"This is Canoeing" - Behind the Scenes
Award winning filmmaker Justine Curgenven talks about the making of her brand new open boating DVD, This is Canoeing. The DVD is the first of it's kind, showcasing top names, dream destinations and wilderness trips. Shot in high definition in Canada, the United States, Wales and Scotland, it's guaranteed to inspire you to get on the water. Films include a trip on the remote Mountain river, experts competing at open canoe slalom, Becky Mason, Kevin Callan and breathtaking class 5 canoeing down the spectacular Moose River with Paul Mason, Mark Scriver & Andrew Westwood. Justine will show some of the best footage, tell some behind the scenes stories and give tips about how she developed camera mounts for the film.

This is Justine as she was about to sign my copy. I gave her a Buffalo River map with the hopes it would inspire her to head this way. Canoecopia was fantastic.

The guy who said, "I want to be that 80 year old guy sitting on the porch saying 'I remember when', opposed to 'I wish I did'", was Kevin Callan. He was a riot! He gave a presentation entitled "The Happy Camper" and he practices what he preaches.

The icing on the cake was being able to travel to and from with Stephanie and Gary. I could not have found any better traveling companions. The whole trip was incredible. The special pieces in the icing were the tours through the Bell and Wenonah plants and to watch as Steph's Bell Prodigy was loaded on her car. And . . . to see her step in for the first time just moments after she got it home.
Look for that Prodigy to be zipping around at the White Water School in May.

BTW, If you are in the Kansas City area, drop by KCPaddler (Take the Peculiar exit off Hwy 71 south of KC). Gary is the manager and a great guy to get acquainted with.

"when I go canoeing, things just seem to fall away".

This is my favorite part of boating as well.
