Need Sprayskirt Advice

Post by DMG » Thu Jan 28, 2010 6:30 am

I'm now the lucky owner of a Medium-Long Pyranha Rev but my current sprayskirt doesn't work very well with it. My skirt is a 1.4 size Seals Shocker. It fits the cockpit rim just right tension-wise but the tunnel is located too close to the stern. When I sit in the boat, the neoprene behind my back is so tight that it actually prevents me from rotating my torso. Can anyone recommend another brand which has more material behind the tunnel or which works especially well with Pyranha boats?

Jeremy?

What about the Pyranha Fish Decks advertised on Pyranha.com. Any US dealers?

Thanks!

~Dave

I started using Snapdragon spray skirts a couple years ago.

Had a problem with the fit on a Snapdragon skirt I had purchased. I called the factory. Turns out at the time I called the two owners actually were making the spray skirts and one of them answered the phone.

I described my problem. Answer: We thought we had that fit down right but looks like we screwed up on your skirt. Send me your skirt and I will make you a new one and go down to the local Jackson Kayak dealer and make sure it fits your kayak model. Sorry for the problem. We will get right on a new skirt to fix the fit.

In about a week a new skirt came via UPS and fit like it should. Hard to beat service like that. No questions, did not ask for proof of purchase - just took care of the problem..

My snapdragon spray skirts have been performing great for me and with service like I got - I will stick with them for a long time.

I've heard good things about Skirtworks. They're supposed to be similar to Mountain Surf, but with a safer grab loop.

With that said, I love my Mountain Surf skirt. They were behind on production after their move to Canada...not sure of their current status.

Thanks guys for the tips! Sounds like I need to get on the phone with the people who know and explain my problem. If they can't fix it with an off-the-shelf size, I bet they can make one. Until then, I'll just keep riding the Ab-lounger.

Thanks again!

I have the same M-Long Rev and the Snapdragon Large and Immersion Research Large Decks work fine. The IR deck is much tighter to get on than the snapdragon. Hope that helps

Call Skirtworks @ 1.301.746.5666.

Snapdragons seep water through the material.
That's not nice!

I did see a recent facebook page for Mtn Surf! But I don't know if he is producing as of yet.

Skirtworks is the company that formed after the Mtn.surf owner lost his work visa here. The same quality materials are being utilized that Mtn. Surf used. Should be bomber stuff! I'm gonna get one!

Thanks again for the tips, guys! I found an Immersion Research XL skirt at Pack Rat that fits pretty well. It's a bit wide athwartship because the Rev has such a long and narrow cockpit, but it seems to hold itself on securely. I hadn't looked closely at the IR skirts because of the ridiculous adjustable strap going across the top of the skirt near the knees. Turns out scissors and a lighter can make that strap go away in about a minute. It's a nice skirt after that!

I use the IR special K skirt which its hard as hell to get on but it keeps all the water out...... Best think is IR will make you what you want, Ive got them making me the special K with a double tunnel for colder weather....Only $25 more than the normal one. I agree the snapdragons are far from dry skirts but no problems with the special K..... its durable and pretty much water tight.
