sorry, but after living in ne ark, i was so used to typing sw mo! i have done the illinois in okla, elk river, sugar creek, lake sequoyah, beaver lake a lot!

Well, I think you meant "after living in NW Arkansas"...but...from SE MO, you probably want to check out the Current, Jacks Fork, and Eleven Point rivers in MO. The Spring River starts at the town of Mammoth Spring on the MO-AR state line that wouldn't be too far, either. You use the AWA river database? Go up to the St. Francis R. area. You may not want to boat the class 2 to 4 water there yet, but you have to go hike around in the area even if you don't boat. It's pretty spectacular stuff. I bet there are some class 1-2 opportunities up there as well, but I'm not hip to the scene yet.

The Missouri whitewater association has some info on the area. They are the primary group that promotes paddling the whitewater sections of the St. Francis.
