I want to do a overnight or two night trip from upper Big Piney (near Limestone) to Longpool. I know there might be some boat dragging on upper part but i dont mind that.I have driven all the roads up there, but would like to see what i am missing on upper Piney. Anyone ever canoed or whitewatered above Ft Douglas 123 hwy bridge? Thanks

Have run from Walnut Creek run down to Highway 123. Never did 123 down to Helton's. Have to remember that there are not a lot of really good places to camp overnight like the Buffalo, especially on the upper sections. Graves Creek confluence has a good spot as I remember Paul Newton and a crew camping there once.

The whitewater for the most part is in the Walnut section. From Limestone down to 123 is not real active but pretty. Would suggest putting in at Limestone or 123 and camping at Graves. Let me know when you a hankering as I've wanted to do the same for awhile.

Limestone to Helton is about 10 miles and if you add that to the regular run, you got plenty for a overnighter.

123 to Heltons is a scenic stretch. The only time I ever made the trip BP was about 8ft. Not much of a challange, but scenic and it can't be any worse at lower levels....well except for less current and more paddle fu.

I've always wanted to go from Walnut to 123 but have never gotten around to it. Pretty stuff up that way for sure.

Just be sure not to put yourself in a situation where you've got to drag a lot in cold weather with a boat full of gear.

Thanks, it will be a late springtime trip early summer, me and girl freind taking a canoe. There might be some dragging, but it will work out fine since i love wade fishing for smallies. There is a camp spot just below where Hurricane creek comes into it, and under the 123 bridge might be a good spot to. Up the creek from Graves creek is some awsome gravel bars to like u said.
