Nrs Hydroskin pants versus Nrs Rodeo Pants

Post by kevohudd » Tue Jan 05, 2010 11:21 am

I have researched them both and still not sure which is best. Paddling in AR I would like a durable pair of pants for the colder months (Nov - March). I would like some advise on which is better. My main concern, of course, is warmth and comfort. With that being said my demensions are: 6'2" at 180 lbs and I also cram into a Jackson All-Star.

Any advise, reviews, or experiences using either of these pants would be very helpful.

See you in the eddies!

I have the NRS Hydroskin pants and wear them as a replacement for neoprene pants. I liked the neoprene pants for warmth but they are cold and clammy to wear and just not as comfortable to me as the hydroskin version. Hydroskin pants are not as warm to me as the Neoprene pants.

I tend to wear the hydroskin pants most of the time. Even in Colorado in July or later. Or any time it is a cool overcast day. Or on a day when I am doing a rocky run and want some insurance should I swim. I find they do a pretty good job long as you stay in the kayak.

My experience is once I get these pants wet and the wind hits, they cool down quickly. I am not as cold tolerant as I used to be and if it is 40 or below, I will be in my dry suit with fleece inside.

Have not used the rodeo pants.

bottom line I am happy with the hydroskin pants and can recommend them unless it is really cold which is to me air temps in the 30's. They might do well inside dry pants, I just have not tested them in dry pants.

Hydroskin user for about 5 years now. I've had mine in a variety of weather situations. My primary reason for procuring them was that we often found ourselves doing long drag / walkin's on creek runs. If wearing drypants or anything non-breathing I was always too hot and sweaty by the time I got to the run.

This is a major upshot of the HydroSkin in my opinion. The major downside - as Dave aptly observes - they suck in wind.

Both of the above pros / cons are negated once inside your kayak.

Most major upshot - Beech Creek putin walk o death through 19 miles of poison ivvy the skins keep the ivvy off
