NM, looks like out of towners only. Two guys from Texas that from the looks of things came just for the news crew to shoot.

Texans! I think he was the producer's cousin's girlfriend's brother??
HERE IT IS
Seriously, the segment came across to me as what a tourist draw the river can be/is. Great! Now let's get one of those for Lee Creek!

seems they did not have much info on the tot, they talked like the tot only has the falls sec for ww. the boaters did not look very comfortable in the falls. Oh well it was still pretty cool.

Nice promo clip, but I hate the fact that they cut the carnage scene just as the paddler was coming out of his boat above the Machine.
Did he manage to scramble out on the rocks? Did he swim the Machine? Either way, I'd like to see the footage!

They should have had representatives from the canoe club showing off their skills. Also, like you said, no mention of the whole river possibilities rather than just the falls.

What struck me is these boaters came from Central Texas to float the Cossatot. A long drive from their home. My guess is most of the folks floating the Tot are from out of the local area. That means a lot of money brought into the neighboring towns.
Hard to say how much money these boaters spent, but gas and food is my guess for sure. The group probably spent at least a hundred dollars, could easily be a lot more if they spent multiple days in the area.
In this economy, anything that improves the sales tax income is a good thing for local business and government.
Bottom line is the Tot is a wonderful area to visit and enjoy. Plus there are local economic benefits from these visits.
Malvern and Hot Springs could enjoy the same tax incomes from work done at Rockport.

They could of found plenty of locals if they just had looked or gave a heads up on the story they were going to cover. plenty of boaters from mena and the sw area. just my 2 cents!

They also talked about hiking... and those guys were not locals either. I don't think locals was their point.

I think it is funny how they referred to the Falls as Class IV - V rapids and the only Class IV-V whitewater in the state.
There were probably not many people there because EVERYONE was at Richland!

Obviously, there could have been a better segment on Arkansas boating. The camera guys struggled to make the water look gnarly at that level and everyone in the segment was from Texas, hikers included. The fact that one out of three Texas boaters swam in the falls at moderate water did give the story some credibility for general accuracy.

That comment struck me as a little odd too. Makes me wonder where they were getting their info from. Obviously they didn't do much in the way of research for their "journalistic excellence."
Of course they had to have someplace they could get a camera-truck to. I can't see them hiking in to the Esses or Lower Screw-up with a 20 pound camera and a news anchor.
