Saturday, November 7th: Get ready for this amazingly beautiful paddle through the Big Woods. We will meet in Hazen just off I40 at the T'Ricks store at 9:00AM.

If you are coming from the east you can meet us at the Hwy 17 bridge over Bayou DeView just north of Brinkley at 9:30AM.

I can't say enough about how great these trips are. Bring a lunch for the river and be ready to have some of the best barbeque in Arkansas after at Nick's in Carlisle.

I'll call her. Not sure about the carpool; depends on whether or not DeBo and I decide to stay in the area and paddle again Sunday.

On the boat - we don't have any flat water yaks, but we could loan you a flatwater canoe, which can be paddled with a kayak paddle if you prefer to double-blade it.

Cowper, was this the same Bayou I swam in? What would it possibly be like now with higher water level. Would the water be moving much?

If we come, I will paddle my approach, lol. No canoe for me.

Cowper, I'd be very happy to paddle solo with a double blade. I hope you were able to get ahold of my mom, because I'm still slightly in the dark about my brother. We will just have to see. What types of cold weather gear would you suggest I bring?

Ok, i have only one dot, and fryingsquirrel has 73 posts and still has only one dot. Karla has 469 posts and has 4 dots. So, it is obviously one dot per hundred posts. Easy. But you have a maximum of five red dots. After 600 posts you get a green dot on your toe. I assume that is Cowper's toe but it appears to be a toe of a much older man. Maybe it has just been in the water a lot. And Debo has no dots at all. Now that doesn't make any sense. I'm going to look at her toes on Saturday. I'll bet they have dots on them. Wow, what a system!!

I can still go, can't I.

Yep, same one, only level is higher this time. Some places get easier with more water, others are faster.

Haven't called her yet, will try to do that Friday. What to bring? Sort of depends...
Air temps promise to be pretty good; even warm. In a canoe, with a single blade, I usually manage to stay pretty dry, so I expect to be able to get by with just a long sleeve shirt and some pants. But I'll always have a change of dry "river clothes" (polypro or capilene) in a bag just in case. And I usually bring a light jacket in case it gets cloudy and cool unexpectedly.
Paddling with a double blade, you'll get a lot wetter even if you never turn over, so I'd say bring the same stuff you would take if you were going to run Cadron creek in the same weather.

No, that's my toe, but that toe has had a hard life. I once broke the last bone into 7 pieces, and to this day that big toe is about 50% bigger than my other big toe.

Notice the obvious lack of mention of green pigmentation in response by toeman??

Could it be the last vestiges of his riverside salon nailpainting by Gayle last summer?

Water? Better than OK, it will be flooded timber paddling at its finest! The level is going to give us a chance to enjoy a stretch of the Bayou that is a bit further to the North, thus no freeway noise. If you don't have a GPS, be sure to "buddy up" with one of the boaters who does, and don't loose sight of them for even a few minutes if you can help it.

But if that fails - just keep going with the current; it all funnels back together and you can not miss the take-out bridge.

Another Great day on the bayou. Over 70 degrees in November, Nice weather. Good turnout, group of 8 or 9. Always confuses me when there is more than one person in a boat. I have not been to Wattensaw yet but have been to Bayou DeView in the Dagmar WMA twice and think this is my favorite so far. Plenty of water and some good current allowed our 5.5 miles covered in good time. In fact, we got to the take out before 3:00. Very strange. I had to look around and find Debo and Cowper to make sure I hadn't fallen in with the wrong group. Everyone still looked fresh. Could we have made that extra 5 miles to the next bridge? I like the longer trips but I think for some the trip today was a good length. So maybe people ought to let Cowper and Debo know what kind of trip they want. Sure is a nice experience and more should participate. And, they always pick a good dinner spot. Nicks Barbecue was excellent.

I really enjoyed my trip to Arkansas yesterday. Everything went smooth and painfree. I learned a lot, saw some great scenery, and met some nice people. I'm hoping to make a few more of these. for organizing these and for the hospitality.

Thanks all for a great trip and great company. It's been 02 since I was last in a swamp, and I had forgotten how beautiful it is.
I hope to be able to repeat the experience sometime soon.
