PICK UP AND PADDLE; CADRON CREEK SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2009
FREE CARABINER TO ALL LITTER PICKERS!
WHEN: Sunday 10/18/09 at NOON
WHERE: Cadron Creek just north of Greenbrier, see description below
We will pick up the trash along our adopted one mile of Highway 65 and then paddle the creek. We will be paddling from the new private access at Mr. Johnny Weidower’s property to Highway 65, which is about 7 miles of Class II and full of play spots. All you need to bring is a pair of gloves for touching the trash, your boat, and your lunch. Trash bags will be furnished and the Highway Department will collect the trash bags when we are through. Our fastest collection time so far has been twenty minutes, but count on a little less than an hour.
Meet at 12:00 P.M. in the parking lot under the north end of the Highway 65 bridge over Cadron Creek. The bridge is located about two miles north of Greenbrier on Highway 65. The road down to the parking lot is Ozark Drive and is located about three quarters of a mile north of the bridge; it is the same road you would take to get to the Ozark Trade Center, on the east side of the highway by the big blue sign. There are brown Cadron Creek Access signs on the highway shortly before Ozark Drive on both sides of the highway. Take Ozark Drive all the way down to the end to get to the parking lot. Here’s a link to a Mapquest map with a star at the point where Ozark Drive is located (about 1400 Highway 65 N):

Come help the ACC whup up on some trash and have fun paddling the river with us!

Mr Coogan: I've just moved to central ar (conway) from NWA, hows the paddling on the cadron? I've heard it's kinda fun, and comparable to the upper end of the buffy. I'd like to take part, but I have no boat at the moment.

The Cadron is fun and easy with good scenery. I'll bet we could find a boat for you to borrow. What kind of boat are you familiar with - rec kayak, whitewater kayak, one man canoe, etc. and do you have pfd, cold water clothing, helmet, etc. ?

I picked noon hoping to be out during the warmest time of day, and give people who go to church or sleep late on Sunday a chance to participate. Saturday was out due to the Koman run and a prior commitment on my part. So Sunday at noon seemed best. It's supposed to finally be sunny by then and in the mid sixties. The water level should be great, too. Hope to see you there.

Re: PICK UP AND PADDLE; CADRON CREEK SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2009
FYI - while our primary trash pick up is for our adopted highway stretch of Hwy 65, there's some larger bits of construction debris on the river that we might try to get off the river as well...anyone with open boats or even rafts who could help with that would be terrific. I think there might even be an effort mounted to "salvage" the 3 or more jon boats that are wrapped around various trees along the creek (think: fun with ropes and mechanical advantage systems).
Let's also plan to have a group stop and pick up along the roadside at Pinnacle Springs bridge if it needs it!

Rumors of CRUs activities
Yes, it is rumored that various fragments of the well organized CRUs (Chainsaw's aRe Us) group, may indeed, via several non-standard techniques, attempt the retrieval of a few worthless Jon boats today. So beware of the possibility, of many low-visibility lines and various other hazards to the boating public, that may be placed across the creek today, especially in the middle of rapids.

Re: PICK UP AND PADDLE; CADRON CREEK SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2009
Yesterday was such a beautiful Fall day on the Cadron, we certainly enjoyed the nice rapids and getting to visit with everyone! I also appreciated getting to see and use the new access to the river!
The only downside to the float was friend Gary getting wasp-stung by one of those last-season chance encounters with a wasp. At Daddys Knees, the wasp apparently landed on Gary's helmet strap and before he could get it off, it stung him on the lip, on the chin, and again near his eye. When we made it to the ramp I went through my first aid kit for anti-sting swabs and Benadryl, both are apparently located in my other kit I keep in the truck
for farm use... I shall shortly amend my floater kit.
Glad to see all the old familiar friends and make a new one yesterday!
Best Regards

What's all this talk about cold weather gear? It was tee-shirt weather! And heck yeah, we can always find you a boat. This trip alone we found three boats.CAPTAIN ALEVE wrote:The Cadron is fun and easy with good scenery. I'll bet we could find a boat for you to borrow. (It was a very good day for Chainsaws R Us.)
