Robbin' from the blind
It's not easy, you see
Don't think i don't know sympathy
My victims in my shadow
Starin' back at me

I am new to kayaking and am hoping to learn all I can, so I would really like to attend on Saturday the 19th.

Would it be possible for someone to bring an old kayak and paddle? I'll pay someone for their trouble if they can bring one... I've got a nice lifejacket, but no boat or paddle yet!

Clarke,

This weekend is our annual club get-together at Camp Couchdale near Hot Springs. There will be TONS of boats and gear there...some used stuff for sale, a kayak raffle, a silent auction, lots of free clinics including pool time to learn to roll. All the info is here:

http://www.arkansascanoeclub.com/index. ... &Itemid=51" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Most folks are going to be down there all weekend...you should try to come down there and join us! It will be a great chance to try a lot of boats and talk to a lot of paddlers, etc.

Otherwise, post again for another time and usually we can arrange to bring extras, or paddlers at the pool will let you try their boat if you ask (assuming it fits). Because of Rendezvous this weekend, I'm not too sure that there will be any folks at the pool this weekend...

Hope to see you at Camp Couchdale this weekend!

Cheers,
Heather

Thanks, Heather. That sounds like fun!

I'd like to join in this weekend, but again, I don't have a boat or paddle just yet... You think there'd be a good chance someone would have an extra?

I'm very interested in learning how to roll a kayak, which clinic/what time will that be taught?

Thanks again,
Clarke

I would say there is a 99.9% chance there will be an extra boat and paddle you could borrow. I don't see a specific time on the schedule for the pool but generally you can find someone willing to work with you just about any time...just ask around. If you can, come down Friday night for the dinner and stay all weekend! You might even want to see if you could sign up for the stroke clinic Saturday am that Diane Cheshier is doing (9:30am), or join the Caddo River float at noon that Mike Coogan is doing. You would get tons of info from either/both of these, and have a fun time too.

Seriously, $15 gets you in for the whole weekend (or $30 for your entire family), and you will get tons of information and both solicited and perhaps unsolicited advice to get your paddling career started! Great chance to try a lot of different boats too...as long as you ask, almost any paddler will let you at least sit in their boat or just paddle it around at the lake to try it out....that can really help you start getting an idea of what things you like/don't like in a boat as you start your search.

Cheers,
H
