Season Finale 2009

Post by GutIt » Sun Aug 30, 2009 7:47 pm

I realize that this Run is going to happen a long ways away from most everyone here. But my Lovely and Charming do this Run every year, among others, (the Verse says so!). It is a way for us to try to involve our Beloved Chillens with what we love to do most before it gets too cold! It has been a pretty good run in the past and even an Epic Major Motion Picture Event! Last year we had around a dozen boats and about twice that many kids!

It is a little backyard Run for us, and we try to make it as easy as we can for everyone who wants in the area to attend if they want. It is only a 3-4 mile or so run, but we make it a day by the time we stop at every gravel bar, fill the River with skipping rocks, quaff cookies and ice cream, swim, frolic, and generally putz around! Class I-ish and very easy and laid back, so no worries! You don’t have to have or bring kids to come, but you definitely have to be a kid at Heart. I think that pretty much includes most everyone here, thank god!

As a recently new ACC Member, I wanted to make sure you all knew it was coming off this year and you are invited. This is not an officially sanctioned ACC event and if you can’t make it all the way to us physically, then please consider being with us in Spirit! Either way? We want you there with us! If you would like any further info about anything, just don’t hesitate. Light off a PM! Physically or Spiritually? We want you to bring it and help us make it what it is!

Remember this one is for the Kids so everyone will need to set an appropriate example!

Right On!

This is The Legend:
Sometime in the Fall before it's too cold, the Boater's will gather, or so I've been told.

The old ones, the young ones, the big and the small, they all get together for a big Free-for-All.

The Call of the River is what brings them there. A Gaggle of Boaters and they're there to share

The Joy and the Laughter, and just flock together. Because after all, they're just birds of a feather.

So they romp and they stomp, maybe throw a rock or two, They'll float and they'll frolic- a Hullaballoo!

And after all that and when they are through, they'll have a big throwdown, a big barbeque.

They make this long Journey for only one reason. For one last Hurrah at the end of the Season.

And in case you are wondering I'll try to be clear, the Boater's will do it the same time each year.

So if you've never heard about this big Rally, this is The Legend of the Season Finale!

-Terry-

Janet & I are happy to announce that the 2009 Season Finale Float & Bloat will go down on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. If I can read a calendar, this would be the Saturday after the Labor Day Weekend. We thought we'd try it a little earlier this year so the kids will have a little warmer H2O temps to frolic in.

It will be on the same stretch as last year's run which was Hootentown down to Maples Bar on the mighty & scenic James River Gorge. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we will not be having the usual Throwdown at our house after the Run. What we thought we might do is stop in Nixa at Buckingham's or maybe go for a pile of pizza somewhere. It would be nice if you could maybe let us know you are coming so we'll know how many thousands of cookies & ice cream bars to have available and so Janet & I will know if we have to bring two trucks to shuttle ourselves or not! Barring the unforeseen, we will be there regardless.

If you recall, or if this is your first time on the Season Finale, this float is all about the kids. Young and old. And because of that, this will be a weather/water permitting run and the final call will have to be made a little closer to launch date. But we wanted to give as much lead time as we could so anyone interested could bring it. We will most likely gather @1000 hrs at the Hootentown Bridge to off-load and then run shuttle. Prior to that, Janet & I are thinking about doing breakfast at Ziggies in Nixa at say, 0800 hrs. Janet & I will have our two grandkids at least and I am hoping to get my nephews hooked up with this again. So gather all the Beloved Carpet-Crawlers, Curtain-Climbers, Bed-Wetters, Ankle-Biters, and Rug-Rats you can find and plan to join us for the Season Finale 2009! And don't forget to bring the kids, too!

And kids? Since last year's Season Finale was such a huge success, and all of your so-called "adults" were so well behaved (well, everything is relative, I suppose!), we are going to waive the leash reg. this year for your "adults". They will, however, still be required to wear their muzzles!

An Aside- The Season Finale is the official close of Boating Season for the Year in Missouri. We will close the Season at midnight the night of the Season Finale. The official opening of the next year's Boating Season will be at midnight.00.01 that same night! So if you are thinking to yourself that Boating Season never really closes, you would be absolutely right on the $$!

We're working on a plan to institute a Season Opener Float & Bloat in conjunction with the Season Finale if I can find enough video tape and ice cream!

Ahh floating at Hootentown bridge..... Growing up at nearby Nixy MO, i've spent many a summer day (and night) tubing from the family farm down to the bridge. Many memories. Wish my son & I could make it to go with you. :)

Wes.

FYI the original bridge was built over the White River at Galena in 1910 and moved by mules to it's current Hootentown location in the 1920's

Well I'll be soaked in sheep dip, Wes! I did not know that. Thanks Brother! I'm going to mention that to everyone. I'll do it when we break out the cookies so I know for sure I have everyone's attention!

Wish you could go. The run is quite pretty and as I'm sure you know it features the Natural Arch. The water quality these days is excellent.

We are floating from the bridge to my wife's family farm! Of course the White at Galena is underwater, but Galena is still there!

The more things change, well, the more they don't! We're trying to make some memories like those you and I have! Maybe in 10 or 15 years our kids and yours will be on here having a very similar conversation and getting ready to take their own kids boating!

I'd die a Happy Man!

WOW! Terry that really looks like something I would love to take the grandkids to. I have committed myself to Conway's Eco-Fest on that Saturday so I won't be able to go.

In the meantime lets pick out a May weekend. And lets meet half way. Lets see . . . Conway to Springfield 200 miles. 200 divided by 2 is . . . uh . . . 100 miles. That would . . . be . . .um . . . hey! whaddayaknow! The Buffalo!

Your Spirit will be a welcome addition to the Season Finale, Leigh, and we will keep you close! Thank you for that.

CMan I wish that Gaggle you have could drag you along! And please tell your own two I said hello or something equally intelligent!

We do this Run locally because some of the people who have attended in the past do so because it is local and a short day run. Any issues and we can be on out of there PDQ if we have to. The closer to their own backyard the more they will be able and willing to attend. It is our belief that the more kids we can get on the water the better the Planet will be. Once a Passion is instilled in the kids, the rest is pretty easy! And it is hugely cool to have a big wad of kids out there together. They don’t seem to care whether or not they ever met each other before. They are all doing the same thing and having a blast together! More fun for them if there are a wad of them frolicking together! Kind of the way I feel when I go boating! So we have tried to gear it for maximum attendance. We kind of figured that we might not get too many takers from South of the Border for the same reasons. It isn’t really local from there! But no worries!

And you know what Richard? We would love to do that! Have considered it already except for the reasons mentioned. If we build it, they will come and we CAN make it happen! Make it special, make it specifically for the kids, and make it happen every year and our kid’s kids will be doing it! Happened with me, happened with Janet, happened with Wes, happened with you, and it can happen for them. Plus it will give me time to pen a new verse for the occasion!!

Next May it is, Brother! As Leigh suggested, we’ll keep The Legend alive! It’s On!

0.75" in my rain gauge by the time it quit raining today.

The James is spiking nicely, and the Finley is on the rise (the run is below the confluence). Some of us did this run over the weekend and it was good to go. Low, but good. Nice thing about this run is it is rarely, if ever, too low.

Weather is predicting partly sunny Saturday, but as everyone knows that changes by the minute!

I am predicting Sunshine at the Put-in! I am never wrong with my predictions! There is always Sunshine with kids putting in!

As of this minute, the Season Finale is ON!

The Season Finale went off as only a Legend can!

This year was a rather small turnout, albeit a quality one. We had six little kiddos four of which paddled their own boats and eleven “adult” kiddos! One of these (8 yrs. old) had her very first kayak adventure that day and her Papa & Granny had to pop for a kayak (actually, they gave her one of their’s permanently). One other (8yrs.) had been in her boat only a time or two and that was this season, after her Granny & Papa shelled for her a boat this year. One (12 yrs) is a three year SOT vet and the other is a SOT 2nd year vet. And it is looking like there is going to have to be a new kayak on this front since these two presently share one. The little one (8 yrs) has made it abundantly clear that any expert boater, such as herself, needs her own boat. Looks like a job for her Granny and me! The four yr. old got to paddle the first time in a kayak at a lunch/ice cream/cookie stop and what I have to guess is no more than a two year old got his chance as well.

These kids were paddling like they were born for it and all of them were a blast to watch! They were all talking about their adventure for days!

The “big” kids are still recovering from all of the cookies, ice cream, and pizza!

Special thanks to Eric and Mary for making the haul. They set their usual excellent example for the kids by cleaning river trash and Eric kept the Legend of the Friendship Rock alive by introducing the kids to it. And as always, the chapeau is off to Eric for the World Renown as well as Internationally Famous Cookies. Eric brought everything he could to make it happen including an awesome bow paddler. It just wouldn’t have been the same without them!

We felt Leigh’s Presence, and yes, there really was Sunshine at the Put-It!
