The comment period is quickly drawing to a close. Please take a few minutes to make your thoughts known by using the electronic form at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/commentForm ... ntId=27928" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It should take no more time than replying to this post, but it has the added advantage of becoming part of the public record and just maybe actually making a difference!
You don't have to comment on multiple issues if you don't want to. Just pick one or two that are the most important to you, and come up with a single sentence or phrase that sums up your feelings. Ban Beer! Don't Ban Beer! (You get the idea).
The "Horse people" were highly organized and visible at every public meeting. Their vision on the future use Buffalo River may be different than yours. SPEAK UP NOW!
Here are a few additional things you might want to comment on. You will see, I'm not telling you what to believe, I'm just asking that paddlers as a group speak up. Cut and paste any of the below information, edit it as you see fit, add some of your own thoughts, and get your opinions on record!
****************PICK SOME!!! *********************
Please increase / decrease / make no changes in the current number of commercial rental boats allowed on the river each day.
Please increase / decrease / make no changes in the current rules governing horseback riders in the river corridor. Increase / decrease / make no changes in the facilities designed for and available to horseback riders in the park.
Please implement / do not implement a system to limit the number of private boaters on the river each day.
Please set up a voluntary permitting system, with no number limits, to better understand the impact of private boaters on the river.
Please require overnight visitors to “carry out” all human waste, similar to what is done on Western rivers.
Please provide studies to support revised educational plans for low-impact camping and river use. For example, should users be taught to urinate in the rivers instead of on the gravel bars, as is the practice on Western Wilderness Rivers?
Please pave more of the back-country roads to minimize sediment in the river following local rainfalls.
Please increase/decrease /make no changes in the current number of river access points.
Please allow higher horsepower motors on the river.
Please retain the current restrictions on motor boats.
Please ban motorized boats on the river above _____.
Please provide a river access point at ________.
Please close the river access and/or road at ____ to provide a more remote river experience.
