Beautiful shots, davidbob!

Looks like an awesome Run with some awesome folks, and in an awesome place! The Hat makes the rower!

May just be the perspective of the photos, but that looks a little tight in some places for large, loaded rubber!

Enjoyed the shots and the Trip Reports!

nice shots. A couple of those rapids looked to boney to fit a fully loaded raft down. Like that pic of double drop. Looked like pin city for the rubber. The top part looked doable but the bottom looked like a raft would not fit through those rocks.

Mike - Double Drop is in the "Moose Juice" section (the 3 miles below the confluence of Moose Creek and the Selway). The river really picks up there both in volume and gradient (about 150' of drop in that 3 miles). I don't remember anybody having any problem at DD, even the big rafts, but Walter and Stewart were rowing the 16 footers so I'll defer to them. I had the same thought you did when I first saw that photo, and I didn't remember the real time run being as tight as the picture suggests. Here's another shot that Paul took of the rapid - there's more room down the right side than the first picture indicated.

Yeah that photo shows a clear line far right that is not apparent in the 1st photo. Man what a gorgeous looking place. I just scored a 14 ish foot hyside and am building it up to hopefully get into these permit runs soon and hall the fam. around.

Gotta love that water quality!

Man, those rapids look seriously technical.

PAUL! CARNAGE! (That's going to leave a mark...)

Yeah Cowper, right on all three counts. My first major injury on a wilderness river trip. Lessons learned: Don't jump out of your raft when landing unless you are sure where you're going to land. Keep in mind that every move you make on a wilderness trip could have more involved consequences. Have air evac insurance ($25) and use it if needed. Go with the right people. This group couldn't have been better to load and unload my raft, fill in on the rowing, administer first aid and followup, provide encouragement. and a multitude of other things throughout the remaining days of the trip. And make sure the first aid kit is along and up to date. (this one was) In hindsight, I probably should have used the air evac option and gotten right to an emergency room to get immediate treatment. As it is, four weeks later I'm still nursing a nasty wound that will take probably another four weeks to close up and has some very bad swelling and discomfort, and I've been sidelined for about two months. I don't know what the cost would have been, but it would probably have been better than being down for all that time. And I've got to add, thanks to Dr Dale for advice and treatment after I got off the river. This club has a bunch of good people. Paul

Yeah dang Paul that's a nasty looking sucker! Hope you heal up faster than expected.

I'll agree with your comment about getting on and off of rafts, even when beached already.....when I screwed up my shoulder on the Canyon trip it was from jumping when I should have been stepping carefully. Fortunately my situation was okay after a couple days of Dr Dale prescribed time off from rowing but could have been much different.

That's Tin Man's spare - yes, we carried his spare, carried his beer, carried his dry clothes, carried his scotch, carried the ice, carried the kitchen and the food so he could eat a couple of hot meals every day, carried all the the rest of the group gear, etc. etc. And the one time we needed him? We look up and he's doin' a fish count in the middle of Wolf Creek (and people wonder how the RBF came to hold its opinions about kwakheads and their little plastic death traps).

Should I remember this above the next time I see your boat floating thru the Falls without you in it?

The passive-aggressive finger is a new one on me.    Do you think Cap'n would get mad if I employed it?

Paul thank goodness you had such a qualified wound specialist on the trip! How many beers do you owe Laura for helping patch you up???
At least a big ole hug is in order, yes?
