Gear stores in AR

Post by lbaker » Fri Jul 10, 2009 6:21 am

Can someone tell me where I might look at quality pfds in AR. I will be driving thru the state on my way to the Current River next week, going up I-30 thru Hot Springs & LR. I have exhausted the stores in my area, and can't seem to find a pfd I like for canoeing. I have an 10 yo Lotus that I love except that it has a side zipper; I wear glasses and a hat so it's a pain to get on and off, and if I should ever have to get it off in the water, it would be impossible. It also doesn't have a lash tab to attach a knife; I have to keep the knife in the pocket, which is horizontal all the way across the bottom, and doesn't protrude.
I recently bought a Kokatat MsFit Tour that is very comfortable and wonderful for kayaking but when canoeing my inner upper arms rub on the protruding pockets. I want a front entry, easy to zip (found several are very hard including the Stohlquist, and Astral), lash tab, no protruding pockets, and doesn't ride up. I've tried a bunch, only to find fault with all. Anyone have one they love?
Thanks,
Leigh

Stop by Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters in Hot Springs. They will probably have what you need.

Ouachita Outdoor Outfitters is located at 112 Blackhawk Lane in Hot Springs, and Ozark Outdoor Supply is located at 5514 Kavanaugh Blvd. in the "Heights" area of Little Rock.

I think Ouachita Outdoor Center would have the biggest selection of paddling gear.

Don't forget DEET. Missouri is the hot spot for tick disease.

Have no fear Richard! I bought Permanone to spray on all my clothes, and wear Deet as well.
Thanks,
PS I missed getting to meet you on the OS Buffalo Trip, hope you will be on the water again soon!!!

I've shopped both - agree with Richard - in addition, they always have a fair selection of gear for sale at Rendezvous and will bring anything one might need the next day from their store.
